Yeah, I understand. I do like having that visible gauge though so I know how much fuel is in the tank instantly. If you ever need to replace your tank hopefully the new one has the extra 2" fitting so you can do away with your stick :D Of course you could always weld a 2" fitting on to your tank anyway  (of course I'm kidding);)

Do you have a tank at your new vineyard farm? Sounds like a potential problem if you don't live there. I think it is always wise to put tanks far away from the road and not visible from the road if possible. Also not too close to a barn.

I noticed in your pics that you had your tank stand bottom rails setting
directly on the ground. I know that is supposed to disperse the almost ton of weight when full along the entire bottom of the angle iron. Mine is made the same way but it gradually wanted to sink in the clay after a years rain and freeze/thaw cycle. I ended up putting 4" thick 8x12 solid concrete pavers under the rails for more surface area. That solved the problem until the last tractor I got made me raise the whole tank another 4" because of the high secondary tank behind the tractor seat.
You may not have the sinking problem down there but if you think you might it would be easier to have some blocks on hand for the next time your tank is almost empty.
I cut a wood stick a few inches longer than the drum diameter and looped it to another stick about 6 ft long with some baling string on one end. I can flip the top cap open with the long stick while standing on the ground and lower the short stick into the tank vertically to see how much fuel I have left when I think I might be getting too low before a harvest. A lot easier for my old joints than climbing up on the tractor tire.

Good point I'll have some blocks on hand ... if you look close at the second picture there is a gauge on the end between the two decals ... nice feature.

Not yet, once one of my tanks are empty I'm moving it to the new farm. Its going to be not too far from the road but I'm going to build a roof over it and I'm not sure if I will enclose the sides solid or use chain link. Either way it will be secure.

Far enough from the road to be Secure from drive by?

Drive by what? shooting? We don't have those problems here. My two tanks currently sit next to each other completely open to the public view on state route 20 (which is very busy) and one is locked, the other isn't and I have never had a problem. Their about 10 yards off the road. This is where my parents live but the tanks are on the opposite side of the barn hidden from the house and still no issues. On this other farm though there won't be anyone living there so I do want to keep it more secure. I don't really recall any other farms having issues with fuel theft since off road diesel here is died different and if you get caught with it in a vehicle the fine is very substantial.

Same here. #2 diesel is red whether you use it in your tractor or heat your house. No highway tax.

Newbury, can you tell me where I can find fitting for those tanks?
Now I can.
After much research on the web, checking out all the places that sell IBC containers, hours of diligent work (NOT):

Riley Building Supplies, Fulton, MS
attachment.php

2x1 1/2 in coupling $1.05
1 1/2 x 2 3/4 PVC Slip Bushing $5.09
3/4 PVC Ball Valve - $3.59 (didn't use because I found the other on a wall in the milling shed)
3/4 x 6? PVC SCH 40

The guy at the hardware store advised me to glue the PVC parts together with the special PVC glue, but for my application I just pushed them together.
I found the outdoor faucet in my shed so I used that instead.

Maybe for water... but not for a $ 1,000 worth of fuel.
Too low, too slow, too leakable with that valve and fuel, and most of all too easily broken off.

For Fuel I bought a hand pump from TSC for $144 and will fit it on the top bung, or drill a separate hole and support it on a board.
