Buying a new Truck

Well I've had the 6.2 for a year and a half...I'll take my 4mpg lower for the normally asperated 400 HP.....I'm sure the Eco thing is just fine though....I just don't like add-ons.

I would like to see a drag race comparison against all the big V8's and the Eco.

Put the 6.2L Ford and GM along with the 5.7L Toyota and Dodge. My gut says the Eco Boost will get beat off the line but will easily run them down. I know the one my dad has will strait get it.

I'd be interested to see that too given that I have a hard time keeping back tires on my 6.2.:D

Edmunds test showed the following 0-60 times:
Ford ecoboost 6.5 seconds
Ford raptor with 6.2 liter 7.1 seconds
Chevy 6.2 liter 6.6 seconds
Ram 5.7 liter 7.1 seconds
Tundra 5.7 liter 6.9 seconds

These numbers really don't prove anything without comparing weights and gearing. I would say it would weigh heavily on the skills of the drivers at launch. I would not say one was faster than the other. As was mentioned, one does stand alone in fuel economy at the price of technology. One also stands alone at working with a less engine noise at the price of reduces driver testosterone. :)
Coin toss......all are good.

Considering it has lower HP than the GM, Toyota and Dodge engines you list then it will lose to all as long as gearing is the same. Since matching axle and tranny gearing is impossible to do, stick with plain and simple power vs unreliable high tech. In the end, Hemi 8 speed will own the drag race and mpg war with simple designs.
I'd like to see an Ecoboost in fleet trucks actually getting used for work vs drag races and towing the family boat to the lake too. Our "field trucks" get abused and that little turbo would never hold up like the good ole V8's do...

Here we go again. Little turbo won't hold up BS. Turbos hold up all around work sites in tractors and construction equipment also big rigs. Come back next year when your ram has a "possible" contender.

Simple designs? Mds, start/stop, 8 speed, variable valve timing, push button shifter, etc

Last I checked, the ecoboost makes more torque than any I those engines. Yes the HP will help in the drag race but hurt you in your field trucks. HP is torque times rpm divided by 5252 (hp and torque are always equal at 5252 rpms). This tells me that these engines need to rev higher to accomplish the same work.

From Jalopnik Silverado 6.2 vs F-150 Eco Boost;
Autocross laptime - the Silverado ties with the F150
Braking distances - the Silverado stops 8 feet quicker than the F150
0-60 without trailer - the Silverado beats the F150 by 1.92 seconds
1/4 mile without trailer - the Silverado beats the F150 by 1.44 seconds
0-60 with trailer - the Silverado beats the F150 by 2.8 seconds
1/4 mile with trailer - the Silverado beats the F150 by 1.04 seconds

"Possible Contender"? Like Ford is really blowing away the competition against all these old design trucks.

MDS has been in Hemi's for 7 years now with no problems, shutting off and restarting an engine is hardly scientific, 8 speeds vs 6 is nothing more than 6 vs the old 4 speed autos and push button shifting is no different than a turn dial switch for 4x4 which is old design. I'll give you the variable valve timing as not "simple" but it's far from a high compression twin turbo water-cooled engine with direct injection...

Yes the HP will help in the drag race
Since the topic of drag racing was brought up, then we agree.

By the way, Congrats on the new truck Goose.

look at the engine specs. That ecoboost makes power down low.

Exactly, we were talking about drag racing so you post a picture of a ram getting beat by the ecoboost after you said the ecoboost would lose? Also talking about drag racing and you say the ecoboost is unreliable and wouldn't hold up to real work? Confused???
I keep stating all these trucks are equal. I just have to counter your bashing one particular brand with unproven comments you dream up.
