require people to use their real name to register, but many people do not, myself included.

They figure that 28% of face book profiles are fake. I have three..:p

I only have two...one real, one alias....and my wife hijacked the alias to play Farmville.

For me, I trust people based on the information they have posted on TBN. Roy has always posted very informative posts that are truly helpful. I respect the people who choose to not share their identity or personal information, everyone is different. :)

I don't participate in Facebook, Linkedin, or any similar mainstream social media. Any such requirement here will end my participation immediately. Not that I would be missed terribly, I'm sure.

Most TBN members don't use Facebook. We did some test campaigns to promote our FB page and almost nobody "liked" it.

For me, any member here who doesn't provide their real name or hides behind a false alias is usually dismissed straight out as a troll, fake or flake. More so if they hide behind a facade of where they live, ie: "anywhere and everywhere" or those who claim to have "any number of tractors", etc. Those here who put an honest name and their own face and location on TBN will have more credibility to me than a hundred trolls or fakes combined. Too bad TBN does NOT require something like Facebook registration to qualify for membership here.

Farcebook!!!!!!!, You bought the stock, didn't ya JD? I'm surprised you didn't turn that into a link or something.

What's a troll?

You claim to dislike people who use an alias, yet you confess to having one of your own. What does that say about you? There's a word for that ya know.

Definition of HYPOCRITE:
1: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

Well, I liked it but maybe that's why nobody here "likes" me....apologize for any controversy this thread creates I just have a strong opinions.

BASHING! There's nothing that makes a members advice less credible to me than just saying a brand is lesser than the one they own. We all have a right to be proud of 'our' brand, or what we own, but there's a definitive line that just drives me crazy when people do.

And when people say things without actually saying anything at all.

I agree with MasseyWV.

For those who have remote farmland with equipment, it is particularly foolish to post identifiable information that could be used as a road-map for thieves.

Thieves routinely use Facebook, forums, and other similar websites to follow someone's activity to determine when they aren't home, where the thieves would then break into their home and have a field day. Similar incidents of identity theft are also commonplace. Many people might be surprised at just how much information can be gathered about someone, even if you only have their name and general location to start with.

I really wish things were different, but unfortunately they are not. We live in a dangerous world, where even the slightest mistake can cost you dearly. In many cases, it has cost people their lives. Like it or not, the "game" has changed considerably, and only a fool would not pay heed by taking all possible precautions.

If it were safe to do so, I'd love nothing better than to use my real name and location on TBN. While I'm primarily here to talk about tractors, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to make some friends along the way. Heck, I'd even have a cookout and invite everyone to my home, for no other reason than to shoot the bull and get to know people. :)

Agree completely. Been in agriculture for most of my life and in the computer world for over 25 years. It became pretty easy to tell which hay buyers would bounce a check after talking to them face to face. Online, you have no idea what kind of person is on the keyboard trying to get bits and pieces of information out of you. You would not believe how many "educated" people have been taken by internet scams that I have worked with. Multiply that by thousands, and you will quickly see why aliases on-line are important. Don't facebook, don't tweet, and never will. Younger people wonder why their house or apartment was robbed?? Just follow their tweets. I'll stop there.
