Six years ago Breezy Ridge Farm - Breezy Ridge Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs. - was a densely wooded and swampy boulder covered piece of NH ridge and ledge outcrops.

After spending 100K on blasting, hauled in gravel, and hiring out heavy equipment, I bought my own equipment and finished the mess.

+ 7 Acres are cleared, and I am just finishing 1.25 Acres to pond and pasture. About all I would ever want to do more is a full perimeter road around the pastures, and finish cutting some horse trails in the steeps. After that it will be just maintenence.

My main thread is http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/projects/89163-busy-wife-weekend.html but here is a photo bucket of all the rock and dirt works.

Nice job! That is a log of work. Can you come over and help me turn my property into what I want? My brother has a Bernese Mountain dog, any different than what I assume you have, Swiss Mountain dog?

Mike,

Great shots and you certainly have done a lot of hard work there with rocks and ledge - beautiful views too I can imagine on your hilltop location.

We have done similar things here over the years - the one excavator friend calls our place "carls rock farm" there are so many rocks and a new crop every spring, I just keep building walls and never have enough dirt.

Thanks for sharing

Carl

Great pics. When I started work on my place I took lots of before and after photos. Great way to watch your progress. Then go back in a few years You might not recognize it any more

Nothing like having all the raw materials you will ever need included in the purchase price. Your property is really coming along-good job.

Bernese Mountain dogs are a bit smaller and more shagy than the Greater Swiss Mountain dogs. There a 4 breeds of Sennenhund, (Swiss Mountain dogs)

We can thank the last ice age for all that Glacial till and bare ledge.
Other than along the rivers, loam can be in short supply around here.

The best locations I've found good pockets of dirt deposits is on the downhill side of ledge outcrops.

I found a 250-300 lb white and silver quatz rock just sitting in our woods. I need to haul it out with a strap and cable for the wife's front yard landscaping.

Now if I could just find a gold nugget 1% that size!

Hi Mike

I have really enjoyed following your progress over the last year or two and you have done an amazing job of beautifying your property I think. I wish I had some of the beautiful rocks that you have on your property - unfortunately my property is all limestone so I have given a lot of rocks away as I find limestone not dissimilar to looking at concrete. I love the colour variations in granite and there are many of them in a pit only 5-10 miles from my property but it still means a lot of hauling and dollars spent. Keep up the good work and I too long to be in "maintenance" mode!

Regards,

Lauren

Great photos and nice work.

I wish there was an easier way to view multiple photos like this onthis site. From what I have been told on other forums that use vBulletin software there is a viewer builtin that if enabled would pop up a overlay window when you click on a thumbnail and then you can just hit the next or back buttons to cycle through all the photos kinda like a slide show but manually advanced, you don't have to open them in a new window or click on the back button to go back to the thread, the thread stays open and the popup window resizes the photos to the window. If you then want to see the full size photo you can click on the photo and it will open full size in a new window.

I am building my own web page for a business that will hopefully help bring in some cash here at the farm. It will have some nice photo galleries up on it. When it is done I will post the link to Breezy Ridge Dirt Works
