I didn't serve to get a discount at a box store in civilian life.
Today I was out mowing with my son and earlier in the day I had him watch "Flags of our Fathers" and "Letters from Iwo Jima". Although my wife was concerned about the movie due to his age, I figure this is about as sugar coated as you can get it for a child to watch being it was shown on a standard channel.
I explained to him that it was due to the sacrifices those men made that enables people like us to have "normal" lives, and that there are men today, serving our country, in combat zones that may never have a normal life if they come back to their families.
Kind of tacky IMO bringing up a subject like this so close to a time about remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
On that note, let us not forget those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and those who are now serving in harms way away from their families for our nation. If you haven't given thanks, you should.
