When new isn't always better?

In 1993 I was redoing a 1969 GTO and the body shop did a few repaints for peeling paint. Talked with the owner, he said a lot of the issues were the auto manufactures were having to go to water based paint instead of oil based. It was more environmentally friendly but they were still trying to get it right. Like earlier said today's cars won't rush as bad since many pnls are now galvanized and rust protection has improved. Much cheaper to repaint than to fix rust. Like to see someone show me a 1960's mustang in Wisconsin that is rust free, and didn't hide in the garage all winter.

You can think the EPA for all this. All the "good stuff" that was in these products that made them last is now no longer allowed. Long story short, for a cleaner environment and better health we will have to paint more often, replace tires more often, ect, ect, ect.....

And it only gets better...We will soon will soon have one choice on paint up here, all water borne. Will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

I thought the paint work got better, as someone from the rust belt be glad theres some metal to paint!:thumbsup:Maybe thats it, we are used to cars being eaten in 2 years now that they live longer we notice the paint falls off.

I agree. My 04 has bern the most reliable truck I have ever owned. I know thatas much as I loved my 73-87 GMC Sierra's, the newer one has them beat, especially in the body department.
