Not a fan of the new forum look...

I'd agree with 90%, the part about members adapting to the forum doesn't fit with me though.

Being one who doesn't like change, I understand what you're saying. All of us have a choice, and can leave TBN any time we wish, but more often than not, we simply adapt to changes, as long as those changes aren't too radical.

Take the new TBN forum design for example. Some people like it, some people hate it, and others are somewhere in between. As a result, the Admins are making changes to adapt the new TBN forum design to better suit it's members, but not all of those changes will suit everyone. Some members may leave, but most members (myself included) will probably adapt.

A forum must adapt to it's members, and the members must adapt to the forum. It's a cycle of change which isn't always easy, but like it or not, it's a necessary evil.

In hindsight, perhaps I should have used different wording in the part about forums and members adapting. The word "must" makes it sound so definite, when in reality it's only likely or probable.

I look at it from the viewpoint of who's complaining, about what, and the volume received. In 2 days we have over 80 replies to this thread, not many of whom are happy, if any. If that's representative of the vast majority of members who never say much, there are problems that need to be dealt with.

I haven't used the editing toolbox much at all yet, but I will say it looks easier to use and more intuitive than the old style. For some reason, it doesn't always seem to be available when I'm posting a message?? Not sure what's up with that.

If the problem is the colour scheme and layout, then that is easily corrected, I think. I'm no web designer. It's fundamental issues like the way the pages work that can be harder to correct. At least the owners are taking an interest in what we have to say, which is a positive.

I started this thread and now there are 5 or 6 threads about the new look and function.

Let me just say, the Admins are implementing a bunch of suggestions as well as handling complaints. And doing it all with a smile.

I don't know if this will take or not, but I'm editing the title to add "..but I'm getting a lot closer.

This is HUGE for me. I am all over the place on TBN and having to find where I had been in each thread was a nightmare. So far so good with the changes and upgrade to the new format. Keep them coming and most will be happy. I do miss my wink smiley face though.

SO far I'm not a fan. May be the devil you know VS the devil you don't know. I'm sure we all visit more than this forum and this new look will be competing with other sites. Wasn't such an issue before.So far I've not ran across how to post a reply without including a quote. Maybe I'm blind.

Looks 100% better now. Still white space on the right because the ad over there stays at the top when I scroll down the page. (I don't mind the ads. I understand the need to support the forum).

We've had ads on the right side for a long time. Perhaps it's just more noticeable now for some reason?

Changes are supposed to be for the better. I find the changes recently made far more labor intensive than the older version. Maybe it'ts just me but the site now takes far longer to go through. It seems you have to always go to the home page to change from, for example, Kioti to Bobcat site. A real pain. Am I missing something?
