What makes a TBN members input LESS credible to you?

OP here, I am in Central Michigan and known as a mean, grumpy, opinionated and potty mouthed old fart so I warned you to give this area a wide berth. Yeah I am a regular poster too but a lot of people here don't like me because I am a mean, grumpy, opinionated and potty mouthed old fart.

Do you agree that if you hang with the forums for a long period of time, you can formulate a pretty good overall picture of the person or persons your dealing with?

I think people, well some people, want that instant gratification and instant whatever when dealing on some of the media that makes up their lives.

I have always preferred the slower pace of knowledge gained.

I stumbled on the "Rural Living" section of your forum and soon became fascinated and addicted to the wealth of information there provided by so many members with real-world experience and wisdom. I had to be creative when I mulled over how I could qualify to become a member and participate, thus my brother's 1961 Tonka and my user name.

I grew up when privacy was a given in most personal activities and am absolutely appalled by the tendency of most people today to freely dispense true details of their lives, families, possessions, and plans on the Internet. My tinfoil hat may just be too tight, but I would sooner be tied to a chair with my eyelids taped open to watch reality TV series nonstop, than ever to Fakebook, Link In, or Tweet. If I can't communicate in person, on my rotary phone landline (ha, you knew I was going to fit in that I hate cell phones, too!), or by snail mail, I'm just not interested. Yes, I'm a hopeless Luddite.

However, I make an exception for worthwhile forums, and TBN is wonderful. I learn something from almost every thread I've read about non-tractor activities and already give credence and respect to several posters. (Heads up, OP!) Turnoffs for me include rants, bashing, and -- alas -- disregard of the computer's spelling and grammar checks, as I have a degree in English and worked for many years as an editor and technical writer and just can't help it.

I don't expect to earn many credibility points here as I am a greenie, Democrat, and a Lib -- the horror! -- but I hope occasionally to offer a pearl of wisdom or two from my years on the farm and my work as a Master Gardener and Master Food Preserver that will appeal across the political spectrum.

Got any guns? A few guns (longarms or handguns) balances out the greenie, Democrat Liberal part...to a degree.
A carry permit adds much weight too, BTW...

Living in the bush and then in a rural community when not in the bush my contact and input with others is sometimes limited, my favorite thing about tbn is that there are all kinds of rural and not so rural folks here and while I don't agree with everything said on here, I appreciate it all and learn from most of it.

JD Green most of my close friends are mean, grumpy, opinionated and potty mouthed old farts so watch out as I havent seen much of your part of the country and my wife never has so if you see a couple a couple of bushy Alaskans sleddin thru some winter please share the trail.

Lady Tonka, although I have gardened out here for thirty some years for ourselves, we are just getting started growing produce for a remote cannery and other fisherman so any organic gardening, hoophouse, subterranean fruit orchards(my fantasy) websites or advice would be appreciated.

Roy (love the hat, BTW) -- Oh, yeah, baby, I didn't grow up on a farm for nothing! Once hubby and I retired to Washington (partly due to the "no duty to retreat" Liberal version of the Castle Doctrine, heh, heh), we applied for our CC permits (on-going) and now are the proud owners of a pair each of .22s, Mossbergs, and Hi-Point C9s to repel zombies when the SHTF (if the Mayans are right) and varmints that go after my chickens.

We also have made arrangements to take remedial lessons even though the guy who's going to run the class said he'd have to think awhile about letting us in the class with such ugly handguns. :laughing: He was somewhat mollified when he found out hubby is a vet of two tours in North Vietnam -- as a sniper.

Rick, gardening in Alaska is a whole 'nother animal from what I'm used to here in the mild climate of the maritime Northwest, but maybe you can get a few ideas from these sites:

Seriously I like to stay away from politics as much as possible on TBN, there is a different forum for those discussions for those interested. I may kid around about it, but don't take anything I say seriously.
