Some QA setups increase the spacing of the pins which gives you a little more reach but also affects the leverage of the hoe because of the geometry change.

Thanks for your detailed and thoughtful comments. I was wondering about how the coupler might affect the bucket geometry. My Woods bucket has two sets of mounts for the bucket link pin. One is presumably fast and the other a more powerful position. As I am nearly always more interested in power than speed I need to make sure an coupler is designed to mount to the bucket power setting.

I already know that a coupler will disrupt the thumb to bucket geometry at least in length so the thumb teeth will no longer meet the bucket teeth and interdigitate (?interdentitate) properly. The malocclusion shouldn't matter for picking up logs or big rocks but it will mean that items smaller than the 6 inches or so (of added length from the coupler) will no longer be clamped. I guess I'll have to stop picking up dimes and pebbles.

I haven't been able to get Amulet on the phone yet today. I presume they have dealt with these issues before. Their website is pretty sparse on detail at this point so it is hard to tell whether they actually stock these couplers or make them up semi custom. I know that the Woods for example needs different size pins for the main and bucket link pins but the demo model they photographed and show in action has identical pin sizes. If they make them up on a semi custom basis I suppose it would be easy to specify some of the other dimensions too.

Hi IslandTractor

Attached are a couple of photos of a used M59 QA I looked at prior to purchasing my L45. The original owner had other excavating equipment that used a QA system from a company called AMI so he had an AMI QA coupler put on the M59 so he could share buckets among his machines. As you can see the pins are 4"-6" away from the original location and you can see the plates they had to weld to the Kubota thumb in order to have it close along the bucket edge.

Regards,

Lauren

I am not affiliated with Amulet, I'm just a guy with some free time and no money so I built my own. The ones that I saw for sale were about $1000 and I just don't have that kind of money. With a little time and some patience some cardboard for templates a portaband to cut the steel and a welder and about $50 in steel and bushings I was able to build my own.

Sorry Island I was on the wrong piece. The american Kubota quick attach for the bucket is a nicer then the C units! Take a look at the excavator or M-59 units.

For those of you that are interested, attached is a photo of a set of L45 ears from H&H for the Canadian backhoe QA. These look similar to the QA on the JD110 so it would be interested to compare the dimensions on the Kubota L45 and the JD110. Can anyone post a photo of a US L45 QA bucket - I'm curious to see if there is a difference.

Regards,

Lauren

There is a list of QC's for a BX25 in the BX25 Goodies thread,
towards the end I believe. I think it is a picture of an order. It
has a female QC and male ends to match.

Thanks. I looked in that thread but cannot find a QC for a backhoe. I do see the FEL QC, is that what you were referring to?
