Will a BX Plow Snow

I plowed my driveway with a BX25 and a rear blade for a few years. In my opinion, a rear blade isn't very effective in a lot of snow. I think the loader on a BX doesn't have the reach or the power to move a lot of snow. A snowblower is probably the way to go. I ended up buying a cabbed B3030 to do my snow removal.

Here is a photo of my BX2200 on the morning it was leaving after trading for new B3030 but used the BX for several years clearing my drive and all the neighbors (couple with gravel) and our road out to the main road. I had a six foot blade but the fel did a great job. If you have a lot of gravel and have much problem you might look at the threads about using pvc pipe on the blade or fel. The pvc does a great job, I even used it a few times with no snow. The B3030 is a little more fun and maybe a little faster but the BX did a great job.IMG_1360.jpg

Thanks to everyone for their comments. There still seems to be a variety of opinions on moving snow with a BX tractor.I think it will get the job done but I wonder if I will be frustrated with it.After watching some videos of BX's moving snow,I am starting to wonder if I should keep the 3240.It seems that the tractors in the videos were spinning out in areas where the 3240 would easily plow through.I think I am a bit spoiled but it is the old saying,"you don't know what you've got till it's gone."

If it's a winter like last year, no problem at all. 2 years ago, the BX would have had it's hands full and then some. How good is your weather forecasting?

I'd say if you're not in a hurry to get cleared out, it will do the job. The extra reach and weight of the bigger machine will do a better job if we get a lot of snow all winter long.

I'm new to the tractor experience, so maybe what I say will be mistaken. But, unless you need the money now, your tractors will maintain most of their value, indefinitely... right? They are both great tools, that you could sell anytime in the future. But, If you sell one now, and need it back... that seems like a much more costly route.

Many people own tractors that see next to no use. But the few times they are used each year they are invaluable.

Not knowing your needs... I'd say hang on to it, since you are uncertain.

Well said! best advice for kcender. All I can say at this point is that The first winter I tried using bucket only on BX, dont like it, seems inefficient due to width of 4 ft. I made a wooden snow pusher of 6 ft- better, but I feel inefficient still. I used a small 4 ft back blade- better in wet stuff- but dont like it in deep stuff. added a angling truck plow in front- I felt I hit a jackpot. It so much better to look forward all the time- driving on freshly cleared path and snow is pushed aside windrowed.

I just had a friend that got an Grand L. Next to a shovel, the BX looks like a huge monster of a machine. Next to a Grand L, it almost looks like a toy. I posted early how my BX cleared a lot of driveway and roadway in front of my house. I'd guess cleared a single lane about 1500 feet long of snow that averaged 20" deep, but some drifts were probably over 4 feet deep. This took me about 6 hours of works with the bucket. I'd bet an L would have done it in half that time or less. We've lived in this house for 14 years, and there has only been about 3 or 4 snows where I can't clear off my driveway with a rear blade. If your L is just going to sit around, sell it, but if you get a lot of snow and can afford to keep it, don't let it go.

If you can find a neighbour that wants to buy it, and will clear your driveway for you, that'd be ideal. No, I'm a little bit too far away, although I'd like to have the hoe. Won't fit my L3400 though..:bawling:

Note the constant steering correction. I had the hoe on at the time. I removed the hoe and it was a completely different experience. No chains either,
