pattern change on bx25 backhoe

Switching the hoses won't do any harm axo938. I have a friend who has his own excavating company but he is a Cat control gut whereas I am a Deere control guy. I switched the hoses a number of times on my Kubota B26 when he wanted to borrow it because he needed a smaller machine for a particular project. I have already switched the hose for him once on my new Kubota L45 without incident too. When I borrow his Volvo excavator and even his Cat TLB they both have an easy way to switch the controls and Kubota provides a lever to switch the pattern on all their mini-ex's but for some reason (presumably cost) Kubota does not provide an easy way to switch the controls on their TLB's.

Good luck with your new machine.

Regards,

Lauren

its not a big deal to do patern selection when you have pilot controls, but when you have mechanical linkage to the valves there is not much you can do.

On my friends Volvo excavator there is a small valve with four hoses connected to it and you just turn this with a 4" lever a quarter turn and you have switched patterns. This valve is less than 4" in diameter and about the same depth. I do not see why Kubota can't place something this small under the pedestal containing the backhoe valve manifold to make it easy to switch patterns without the need to use wrenches and physically change hoses. Once I get my Laurin cab installed on the L45 I am going to talk to a friend who is pretty knowledgeable about hydraulics and see if we can't rig up a switching method that does not involve wrenches or removing hoses since switching hoses may be a little tougher once the Laurin backhoe enclosure is installed.

my guess as to why they don't have a pattern changer switch is to keep the cost down. it would sure be a nice option to have on the machine though, worth the extra money to me anyway.

i'm taking delivery of a bx25 this week. never owned or operated a backhoe in my life. which pattern does the bx 25 h sae or iso? this is gonna be fun!

no your not missing anything its just the control pattern. i learned on the excavator pattern and this is set up in the tlb pattern. the boom and stick are on opposite controls from what i'm used to. makes me feel like i can't operate it because everything is backwards. the guys who run heavy equipment will know what i'm talking about.

It will ship with the Deere which I believe is also called ISO pattern.

You're in the same boat with me. I bought a used (3rd owner)B26 and the guy told me the original owner switched the controls so it operated like an excavator which he was used to running. The second owner like myself had never ran a backhoe so it makes no difference how it is set up. You learn to run it in whatever pattern it is and there is no problem till you try operating a different machine with a different pattern. Most of the controlling is eye/hand control and comes automatically. I have to stop and think and still sometimes pull the wrong lever if I am on the ground working the controls to change out the bucket whereas when digging, it just works semi-automatically eye to hand like reaching out to pick up something with your own hand. You dont think "move bicep, now forearm now close fingers etc" you brain just say pick up that and your arm just does it. Same way with operating the backhoe after you run it a bit, your brain says to do something and your hands just pull the correct lever to make it do it.

The only BH controls that don't make sense to me on my BX25 are the stabilizer sticks. Push out (away from you) to raise them and pull in to lower them. That is 100% wrong in my mind. Sitting in the seat, pushing away from me feels like the stab's should drop, not raise. Same with pulling them in. After 20 months of ownership, I still have to stop and think about the stabilizer controls and get it wrong about 30% of the time. Maybe some day I'll reverse the hoses on them. Everything else is second nature at this point.
