Have you considered the possibility of shaving the outside spacer spool just enough to get an extra thread or two? If you can do this it should help with getting the square shoulder more room to lock on too. I am referring to the spacer between the last two blades on this gang.

Have not considered that. I guess another option similar to that would be to purchase a different width spacer that was sized for 7.5" spacing versus the 9" spacing I have now. Might accomplish the same thing and be easy to swap back if needed.

Might wan't to buy another 9" spacer and use a chop saw to cut out a small slice in the middle and stick back together. Leave enough to have clean threads to tighten against.
