I feel sorry for your tractor being in a shop with dirty floors...the horror...the horror.:D
Lol, I hear you. I was concerned when I saw the cab just sitting on that dirty floor, then I realized that was the old cab frame, and the new one will hopefully never touch that fifthy floor before being lowered into the tractor. :D In all seriousness, they seem to be doing a great job. They had the cab off within a couple of hours of bringing the tractor in the shop yesterday morning. I got word late yesterday that the new cab frame finally arrived, so they will begin mounting it this morning.

The service manual calls for removing the hood before removing the cab, but I guess their experience has taught them some shortcuts over the years. Also, the leak that I noticed under the transmission is from the seal where the rockshaft control valve mates with the top of the gearcase. Its a simple fix to just remove it and reseal it with the cab off. I asked the service manager if the job could have been done without removing the cab. If not, any labor associated with removing the cab should be booked as warranty work, and not be part of the insurance claim bill.

Then I guess the insurance company will get some money back.

The claim with the insurance company was settled over a month ago and closed. So the credit balance I have with the dealer is what would be impacted. Once they get done with everything, we'll look at the total number of shop hours used and work it out from there.

You could re-open the claim. If you found additional damage you would.Just pulling your chain Pete.

Spoke to the service manager this morning about the status of getting the cabs swapped out. Turns out the new cab frame from the factory in Mexico is missing a number of holes and openings that the dealer is having to manually drill/cut. I guess that final bit of "manufacturing" is normally done at the assembly plant in Augusta, GA. They have taken pictures of all the places where the holes are missing or openings are too small and will send them to Deere, along with a bill for the additional hours that is taking so that it doesn't count against my insurance claim.

They hope to be close to done with it by the end of today.

Got an update from the service manager. They ran into a couple of issues yesterday. One was not having a special rivet tool needed to properly attach the wire harness to the new cab frame. Got it transferred from another store overnight so they can get that done today. The other is that the replacement fender they got is for the wrong side despite having the right part number on the box. They are not sure when the correct fender will come in. The box has been sitting in their shop for weeks, but I guess everyone just assumed it was right one since the part number was right. I'm still hopeful that I'll have it back by the end of the week.

They say I can keep the old fender and cab frame since neither were replaced under a warranty claim. I'll probably take them up on that since both items can be readily repaired. Fender just need a little fiberglass fill and I already straightened out the lip that was bent a little on the cab frame. Just need a little sanding and painting and it will be hard to distinguish from new.

That's nice that they let you keep the frame and fender. Go ahead and sell that cab frame! We needed to buy a new cab frame for a Cat 416B that was in a rollover. New was just outrageous, if I remember close it was almost $4500, salvage yards were about $1500 for a used cab.

List it on Craigslist or contact a salvage yard as they purchase used cabs all the time. Ya you might get a little less but then you don't have to worry about liability.

No kidding on the cost of a cab frame. The one for the 5000M series is just under $3000 and the fender is $500! Good advice on contacting a salvage yard to see what they will offer. That way I would probably be able to unload them a lot quicker too. I used a dig through auto salvage yards as a kid all the time when working on my Firebird back in my high school days, but I'll have to do some digging I think to locate one for tractor parts.

Just got off the phone with the service manager, they finally got the correct fender in yesterday and should have everything wrapped up for me to come pick it up around lunch time today! Then I'll have to put all the stuff back on it I got laying all over my shop floor.
