Well that's about how often you need to flash the field. I don't know anyone who ever had to do it but, again, it could happen.

Wow, 50kW is a big unit! How many horsepower does your F-935 put out? I assume you are not using 50kW of energy, any idea what your average load is and how much fuel you use? At $4/gallon deisel gets spendy. Has anyone compared the economy of propane vs. deisel, dollars per kW hour?

Effieciency isn't really important during an extended outage. I would be more worried about available fuel source, for example and nearby farmer. Gas stations will most likely be down as well.

I think you are right on the mark , look what's happening in NJ, aren't they going to rationing? Power goes down, gas stations can't run pumps, people run out of gas on the road, the roads get backed up, gas trucks can't get to the stations with back up power. This seems to be happening from Sandy. So after a week or two everyone's out of power. The less power you use the longer it will last, also try to have several forms of power. I know guys with steam and Stirling engines. I think if you can find a way to run a generator on wood you have a good plan. My alternate energy looks better everyday.

So you have a PTO gen, now it's not a case of 'when I need my tractor' now you're out of fuel and the tractor can't get you out of emergencies. I always want plenty of fuel for my tractor especially in emergencies.

I have a Tiger Power 15kw PTO generator & the only way you can tell the difference from line power is that you can hear the tractor running. Mine seems to be prefectly OK for powering the computer.

We ended up being without power for about 70 hours this time. My generator & B3030 HSDCC were worth their weight in gold. Mom has an oxygen machine & it must be powered 24/7 & the tractor & generator never missed a beat. Sorry to hear Tiger Power is dropping their generator line though!

You can eliminate the problem of getting fuel or being caught short by having a good reserve of fuel on hand. I don't like storing gasoline because of the volatility and the fact that it degrades so quickly and besides there is no such thing as off-road gasoline.

Or opt for a natural gas or propane gen set or PTO generator with a lot of fuel on hand to power the gen set. There is a tank setting next to my New Holland with approx 200 gallons of off-road diesel in it for just such long term emergencies. BTW I'm sure most of you already know that off-road diesel is cheaper than diesel you buy at a gas station.
