Only a very small number percentagewise actually "live" of welfare type benefits.

Yeah because they supplement their "mail box money" by stealing and selling dope.

Perhaps the sentence was unclear. I was talking about farmers and businesses that receive financial payments of support in the way of subsidies just like the unemployed do. Did not intend it to sound like all farmers and all businesses.

You are nuts if you think that the majority of Americans live off the government. The figure often quoted of 47% is the percent receiving some form of benefit and includes anyone receiving any SS or Medicare etc etc. Only a very small number percentagewise actually "live" of welfare type benefits.

Prudence Island is not exactly a "high rent district " and by the looks of it there are more than a few benefit recipients living there , How long have mommy and daddy owned that property since you live more than 70 miles away ? You never know who's reading your posts on an open web site !

Why did the founders of our country legitimize slavery and deny women the right to vote?

The Constitution and Bill of Rights are not the Ten Commandments. There is a process specified for making changes. There is also a process for interpretation of the constitution and most of the discussion on gun control is focused on interpretation rather than change.

Unless you can't read English there is nothing to interpret about the 2nd amendment. Its very clear. Until it is repealed (which would require ratification by the states) the government cannot legally confiscate the guns.

Island, how do you propose to pry the AR-15 out of the hands of the people? or even to get them to register them. As Registration will lead to eventual confiscation.. and YOU know it, and so do we. Do you want bloodshed? Do you really want that? Or are you going to volunteer to go around ad do the deed? Tell us what you really think.

I'm more concerned about keeping these weapons out of the hands of lunatics. Strict requirements for new owners and all sales would be the best way IMO. I'd just make the process for getting one more difficult and tight so fewer straw buys and impulse buys for lunatics were possible. I don't know how the process works in other countries or in the US states that have limits but those would be good to examine. Maybe you'd need to show proof of registration to buy ammo. Rules on storage etc would probably only be enforced when someone broke the law and it resulted in a crime as in leaving guns somewhere that a simple thief could steal them or an unauthorized person got ahold of it and cause a problem. The civil courts would probably put enough pressure on owners to comply that criminal cases involving otherwise law abiding citizens would be rare. Your home mortgage and home insurance company might take notice however and make you certify that there were no unregistered weapons of whatever type make it into the law. The guns that are already out there in hands of law abiding citizens would remain so long as they accepted any new storage or usage limits. Yes, that might mean fewer youtube videos outside a firing range or farm. Maybe we need a larger sports shooting gallery industry.

The notion that anyone is planning to drive door to door collecting guns is a bit far fetched. Tightening down on how those guns are stored and transported and sold is not.

Can you imagine the first door they knocked on to try ? Could get real ugly real fast .

What I said was in reference to your comment about a "declining portion" and the "majority of Americans"...I stated that you must be referring to the electorate (rather than the "majority of Americans") and my implication was that there is no decline...rather an increase in the electorate being that in the last 4 years (the increase) has begun living off tax payers...in other words your assumption based on the electorate is misguided (nothing new there)...

The pendulum (majority of Americans) is not swinging to the left regardless of how much you wish it were so...the electorate has moved to the left by the same amount as the increase of (actual) tax payer hand-outs...
Left leaning Americans have always been the laziest faction of the population/electorate...never one to look a gift horse in the mouth...so to speak...!

I think y'all ...all of you no matter what country you live in are missing the glaring point. Frequent mass killings of any kind are the symptom of a basic break down in our society. Just in my lifetime I can see a drastic change in the family unit. Knowingly or not we are going down a one way road and the consequences are irreversible. It sounds like a pessimistic point of view, but it is reality.

I hate to admit it, but I am embarrassed about what is on our mass media. Popular shows on TV are mostly about serial killers, rape, torture, kidnapping, etc....have you ever asked yourself why is this ENTERTAINMENT? It's not a question of religion, it's a question of what is right and what is wrong. The lines of black and white are gone...it's all grey and we are in trouble.........

It has happened... In California AND New York....

CALIFORNIA ORDERS STATE-WIDE CONFISCATION

Now I don't know what happened with the court case.....

I bought it ten years ago. Not a family place. Why is that relevant?

Regarding benefit recipients on PI, sure, quite a few retirees among the 100 year round residents. Most residents however, like myself, just have summer homes there.

Are you seriously surprised that the "foreigners" on this forum who might post an occasional critical comment are from Canada or Australia? You thought perhaps that the Hordes from Mongolia, Serbia or Nigeria were more likely to frequent TBN? I understand that many on TBN have not spent much time outside the continental USA except perhaps on overseas military bases. To worry about the Canucks, Aussies and Brits however is like worrying about your brother being critical. Believe me there are more strident and one sided critics out there.

I did make the point that they are important allies. And yes, there are tougher critics out there, that is for sure. But we do have some differences in personal freedoms, and I for one would not like to see any more changes on our side. At the same time it is not for me to criticize the other countries for the personal freedoms they have given up for their own reasons.
