Anyone have any opinions on these dump boxes that go on a 3pt hitch. They look pretty handy and would eliminate my need for a trailer with more tires and storage issues. I think i like the idea of being able to raise and lower the box for loading. Just never really seen one in use so I'm wondering if I'm missing something. I always like to get opinions before buying these days. Too many good ways to share information like this forum.

The one I'm thinking of is like the one mkmartin.ca sells.

Thanks

I don't have one but I actually read nothing but great things about them for things like you explained.

I have a carryall which is the same idea but doesn't dump. The dump feature would be a nice addition. We use the carryall all winter to move firewood.

Thanks for the quick replies. Really appreciate it. I'm all ears and the more opinions the better the chances of selling this idea to my wife

I have a carry all and a hydraulic top link so I can tilt it back to dump. I can put in stakes or side boards to make a box. You will find having a carry all or box on the back extremely handy. There is no end to the uses for it. Plus you can carry more weight than the bucket can.
I am not familiar with the unit you are looking at but if it were me I would want to be able to remove the sides and tail gate so I could use just the flat surface. Being able to carry big stuff that over hangs or having access to all sides would be important to me.

edit: On the other hand there is nothing wrong with have a dump box and a carry all. Carry all are pretty reasonable priced.

I have a Walco 4x4 Dump Box that I got with my first tractor.
It used to get a lot of use hauling firewood before I got the pallet forks for the 3pt.
Also used to load it up with soil to use as ballast for the FEL.
Left it at the base of the chimney for the masons to toss the old bricks into while we had our chimney rebuilt.
Made cleanup easy, saved me a hefty carting fee and helped fix a soft spot in my neighbor's driveway!
Everybody was happy that week.

This is off topic but your post reminded me - way back as our first house we bought an old 1850's farm house and gutted it. The chimney was soft brick with no liner and you could see thru it in some places. The studs were black with soot. Don't know how the place didn't burn down. So I took the chimney down. I bought an old trailer and parked it below then started picking bricks off and dropping them into the trailer, first from the roof then from the up stairs window. When the trailer looked about full I went down to get rid of the load. The only trouble was that my trailer had two flat tires and a broken axle and a nice big load of bricks

Don't forget to conside the capacity of your 3pt hitch. How much is it designed to lift?

And you might also have to be concerned about getting too much weight too far to the rear on your particular tractor.

mkow,

Look at "westendorf" auto-dump. It is a 3pt mounted rear scoop, dump and carry box
