Paul:

To change the subject slightly, I was looking at your picture file and saw a picture of the dash on your "L". What are the two small gauges on either side of what appears to be a reversing camera viewer. Also have you or anyone else put an analog Tach on your BZ? The little digital tach/hour meter is not the easiest to read. Wish they had put an instrument cluster on the BZ similar to the "B" and larger tractors, oh well can't have everything.

Jack

Jack. After I installed the back up camera on the L I seen an opportunity to add a few gauges. The one to the left is an Ambient air temperature gauge (outside air temp) and the right side is a volt gauge. I attached a few photo's of it. You'll notice the mast I fabricated on the L for it's sensor. It's to upper right side of the cab. You have a good eye

That's really cool! Thanks for posting it here, as I missed the other thread.

Hey your more than welcome. I know it's not a BX mod but when someone asks I try and explain. I guess my life is just an open book

OK then, in that case, I have a quick question for you. How are you attaching some of this stuff to the tractor? Are you welding it on and repainting the area, are you building a bracket and using a nut and bolt or are you using some kind of clamp?

Stanley the closest sinkhole I ever seen around here was while watching CNN. That don't happen around here. I've seen stumps sticking 4" out of the ground that's been there for over 20 years and they were still in good shape.

When we first started removing the trees I dug up a stump on the front of the property down by the road and it was a terrible big tear up and I said I'd never do that again plus the time and top soil it took to do that stump was crazy. I find that leaving the stumps in the ground gives the ground more stability and keeps things in place. Tearing them out means putting back fresh fill/topsoil that is all alive and loose.
When I grinded the stumps I went 6" below grade and a few shovel full of soil and I was done. I did 8 stumps in one hour. To many rocks in Newfoundland to get a sinkhole ;)

These are excellent points and apply to more areas than Newfoundland!

I've never understood everyone's zeal on TBN to rip stumps out. Huge waste of time and energy. If you aren't plowing it or installing a foundation grind the stump down 6" and leave them be.

Just tell me what item or items specifically your referring to and I'll gladly tell ya. Please don't say "all" because there just to many. :)

It's entirely possible that it might just be *my* soil conditions and/or climate in my area contributing to the problem, but so far, all of the stumps in my front yard that were buried after my yard was first leveled have caused sink holes to open up many years later. The first year they opened up my wife was walking in the front yard and without warning fell through one of the holes into an open void past her knee. I'm just really glad she didn't get hurt.

Every year I do my best to re-fill them, but so far, it's been to no avail as the following year they just open up again. My plan is to finally dig them out later this year (once my tractor arrives) and deal with the problem once and for all.

I was looking at the temp. sensor that you had just posted and wondered if it extended down the side of the tractor all the way to the bottom and if you welded it to the side pillar or not. I know that mods like the vertical exhaust make use of existing holes, but you must have to make new holes or pull out the welder for some of them.

Ken here's the link to the original post on the ambient temp sensor. In the case of the 5740 all my designs evolved around all existing bolts and bolt holes until I got into the front LED 20" lighting. The top LED light bar had extra brackets mounted to the mirror brackets (cab side) to secure the lights. I did this to insure a strong installation and it's done in a way no one would even notice it was modified.

The ambient sensor installation was done in a way that no holes were drilled. For the mast, I mounted that to the mirror bracket (Cab Side) . The harness was run up through the cab channel and out through the turn signal grommet and up to the mast. You'd have to look close and hard to notice any wiring in the cab.

In the case of the Vertical stack conversion I used all existing holes for the FEL to mount everything. There was a mod where I drilled and tapped holes in the rear wheel weights to fab up covers for the center holes but that's about it.

Paul, I didn't think about the rocks in your area. The first house I built the stumps from large oak trees were buried in the back part of the property and after about 10 years the lawn started sinking in places due to the stumps rotting. I was continually filling in the low areas until I moved. Thanks for your explanation. Stanley

Your kindly welcome Stanley. I've never seen or heard of a sinkhole in Newfoundland. I wonder for those that do have them is their soil sandy? You would never believe all the rock we have here. You can't dig a hole of any size without finding one.
