BX2200, Flat Yard, Just Mow... Remove the ROPS?

If you are only using it to mow and dont own a loader for it I would remove it. I did when I owned my 2230 and only mowed with it, unbolted it and stored it, bolted back on when I traded it in. Now the 2360 I have has the loader and I wouldnt ever think of removing it.

I live on a hillside. I've laid a BX on its side one time (Scary). I wear my seatbelt on my home hillside property. I also have several acres of rental property that is flat except for a ditch up front and I usually wear my seatbelt because I've worn seat belts always in vehicles since 1964/65. My covers on my ROPS at home are always hitting the multiple trees on my home property. The ROPS and cover on my rental flat property is no bother but I need the ROPS to hold the cover. If I didn't and it bothered me I'd take it off but NEVER on my hillside property even though it bothers me every time I mow with my F3080.
It's yours, remove it by the bolts that hold it on and set it back some where if that's what YOU wnat to do. If you decide you want a cover to keep the sun off you then put it back on.

Wow! Were you doing FEL work, or just mowing? .

I had a cut on the hillside where I had built an additional garage. The drive was level and I wanted to round over the short cut wall on the upper side. It was maybe a foot high. I was back dragging the FEL curled bucket edge while on a side angle. Lowered the bucket and curled it and pressed the control lever to apply front tractor weight and start back dragging to round the sharp edge off. Didn't happen. The tractor front lifted a slight bit and the tractor just laid over on its side. Guess with no dirt under the entire front part of the bucket the high side with dirt just pushed itself up while the lower side without dirt under it for support just dropped down which just pushed the tractor over on its side. Figured all this out later, not during the half second while it was going over.:confused3:

TWEET! TWEEET. WOOOO WOOO.. the safety police have arrived! ha ha.. just kidding. it is your tractor do what you want with it. Me I need my ROPS, it holds up my sun shade canopy:) Besides that on these stinking hills, the chance of turning over a tractor are good! One of the prominent posters on here took his ROPS off long ago. I liked the story of the JD1026 and lofting the front wheels. That was a good one. Some people are too stupid to own a tractor.:confused2: "step away from the tractor, and put your hands on top of your head where I can see them" Ok.. this problem is HBO (handled by officer) and returning to HQ.:) Safety police out.

the ROPS was hooking the limb and trying to tip the tractor over backwards. TRUE STORY!!!!!

I have more than a few branches with scars from the Bota. But at least I knew I was whacking them. lol That's an awesome story! :)

I have my tractor in offcamber situations all the time working in steep timber. I'm extremely cautious and am always thinking about my actions before doing them. But,,, with that said,,, your example is exactly how it happens. By the time you realize you've made a mistake there's no "do overs". Glad you didn't have far to fall!!!

I think the newer tractors look funny without a ROPS.

The rule of ROPS use is: Always use seatbelt if it's up, NEVER use seatbelt if it's missing.
BTW, old tractors can be retrofitted to make them safer. Too many farmers have been injured or killed by old tractors without ROPS/seatbelts, unfortunately.
As an adult you're free to choose to do what you want, and pay the consequences of your mistakes/errors.
Not a slam, just reality.

My rental prop next door has a very steep bank leading to the pond. Last summer I was mowing with my Wildcat, ROPS up, belt on. I was doing the same track I do every time I cut and next thing i know the Scag takes a sharp right turn down the bank. I'm half way down the hill when i am able to get control of the machine and trying to figure out what to do next. Backing up the hill will only render ripped out grass and bare spots - so I decided to go forward until I can rest the weight bar against a tree. I left the keys and walked away. Came back with the Kioti and after releasing the hydrostat motors dragged the Scag back to level ground.
First time I went over a smaller hill I pushed the handles forward like I was stepping on a brake pedal- hit a sapling hard. By the time the above hill happened I was'trained' to pull back to slow forward momentum.:confused2:

This is a fact, and I normally don't recommend that people remove the ROPS. But in this instance, the OP is on level ground and has no FEL and just mows grass with the MMM.

Hillsides will cause that if the operator isn't careful,(sometimes even if they are) but that has nothing to do with the OP's situation.

Perfectly flat ground, no FEL, no Hoe, just a mid mount mower.

I guess the OP could flip it though..........if he tried to drive over the top of his car
