BX2200, Flat Yard, Just Mow... Remove the ROPS?

Johnthomas,

I'm on a pretty slow connection so all your pictures didn't load for me, but it looks like you were backing up with the backhoe up in the air and fully extended? If that's the case, it explains why it took so little to roll your tractor. If not, then forgive my incorrect assumption.

Oh my god! No way! And your not using a full roll cage with front, rear, and side impact airbags? I can't believe my eyes!

Seriously though, the important thing Is that your AWARE of the dangers and MINDFUL of how to mitigate the risks involved.

Out of curiosity, do you wear your seatbelt when you mow your lawn?

No the BH was not extended before it hit the ground nor was the one leg extended. I moved them while down attempting to see if I could get the tractor to lift itself but alas it took the Avalanche to easily pull it back up since the Avalanche was on the slope above the tractor. But I was AWARE of the dangers and MINDFUL of how to mitigate the risks involved but alas I John Thomas turned it over thinking there was no risk at all. I was totally surprised at the time as I'm going on my side and looking down as the ground is coming up to meet me while thinking is this possible and glad I have my seat belt on and I should have got that Kubota Insurance. All that thinking in 1/2 second.

Good to know the backhoe wasn't extended, and your absolutely right in that it can happen so fast when your not expecting it.

Unfortunately, there will never be NO risk...

I always have the rops up and use the seat belt when I use the tractor. I am just a kid and know to do that.

To the OP... Is there a good reason you can't just trim the trees and be done with the problem?

You can count me in the "its your tractor do what you want" camp.

I got mine to mow initially. And navigate back in the woods. I didnt want to trim all of my trees 9' up. That would look stupid in the woods. So instead of trimming all my trees, I trimmed my rops, or rather removed it, the same day I got it.

It hasnt moved from the tree it is leaning against since the day I got my tractor 7 years ago. If you like, I can take a pic of it:laughing:

Now one thing I did have to modify, and it dont sound like your BX is this way, but my turn buckle sway links attached to the lower portion of the ROPS. So I had to make new brackets for them. I didnt have any lights to worry about though.

The JD 1000 series have ROPS because they have loaders and other attachments that may cause a roll over. My X748 (lawnmower) does not have a ROPS.If mowing is the only thing one is doing on flat ground then it is safe to remove it in a non permanent way.

I use my L3400 for mowing the big areas of my fairly flat property. I keep the ROPS folded down for tree avoidance. I have been close to being injurfed by branches cathing the ROPS and snapping back.

Just let a little common sense prevail on what you do.

I was looking at that filter down there, and thinking that would be a lot easier to get to that way:D
