Looks like we're gonna have a great season for producing hay. Maybe the best in several years. I just wish that I could sell it. ;)
I have about 55 acres of hay meadow. However, I have limited barn space and it's almost full. So I'm only fertilizing and cutting one 12 acre patch. Rolled 37 bales (4x5) last weekend. I had cut it and fertilized 3 weeks earlier.
Sold 15 rolls today, so that made a little room in the barn.

You mean you're leaving 43 acres of hay just sit in the field?? If you stack it and tarp it along the edge of the field wouldn't some of them fellas next door (Texas) have a "burning" need for it?

What kind of hay and how much per bale? What will the bales weigh? What's your zip code?

I don't tarp my rd bales that I sell to those "picky horse owners". My rd bales are netwrap not twine.

Wish you lived closer, Bigfoot. I am expecting to get some bales from the pasture behind me, but we are behind on rainfall, in my county, yet again, so not sure how much will make, this year. One can never have too much hay, at the ready. I always try to have more than I can use, in case the next year is really lean. If I am going to get fresh hay, I can usually sell off my older stuff pretty easily, or feed it to cattle.

Like Jim said, horse owners won't buy hay that's been stored outside, even under a tarp. Down here, the humidity is just too high. Mold and fungus can make a horse very sick, or worse, kill it.

Jim, a PM with contact info is inbound to you.
Wish you lived closer, Bigfoot. . .
That seems to be the story of my life. LOL Wrong place, wrong time, etc. :D
As I said earlier, this will probably be one of the best hay seasons we've had here in years, and there's just not much demand. To make matters worse, there's always a few producers that sell un-fertilized, weed-infested hay dirt cheap.

Bigfoot; If it really is good hay, I know one large horse facility that usually gets their hay from Louisiana. But I do understand the humidity making the hay unfit, if stored very long due to mold, where you are located. I just hate to hear of hay not being baled, given how short supplied we may be again, by fall. *sigh*

Know what you mean. But, I won't bale hay just to watch it rot. And, without a market for the hay, I'm not spending the money to fertilize those meadows. And, I don't sell hay that's not been fertilized.

What would you need a bale if you did bale it and size bales? I have two pasture left to see what going to end up with, starting one next friday 30ac., I have 40rolls,takes me 140 to 160(5x4s).

We had 4 days without rain and were able to put up 1200 small square bales. Fields are so water logged it takes an extra day for the hay to dry. Now storms are about to roll through again and it's suppose to rain all week.
