Tinnitus making me mental

Give it time and it'll get worse.

Probably not the best response in view of those who are new to tinnitus and are anxious about it. Especially given that tinnitus very often goes away on its own and even when it doesn't the brain relegates it to the background and life returns to normal for 99% of us.

Maybe you're right, Dennis, but my doctors disagree. Life may be "normal", but are you saying that the tinnitus goes away for 99% of people who have tinnitus?

Give it time and it'll get worse. I now have the cicada sound continuously, as well as the sound of heavy traffic a ways in the distance, and also sounds like a diesel tractor idling the other side of that traffic.

Bird your Tinnitus must be loud I can hear it from the next state North of you.

The only good thing that I know of in having this continues noise is there is brain activity.

My doctor told me marijuana would help. I'm a gamer so I tried it again. All I could do was focus on the screeching in my ears and stare at a wall for 2 hours. Wasn't good. Made my heart race too. It was really good weed

Nah, I'm saying life itself returns to normal, not hearing. Although, when your brain ignores it and it just becomes white noise, hearing does, in a sense, return to normal.

There are so many causes for tinnitus, I'm not seeing how your doctors can, with good conscience, generalize that tinnitus always gets worse. Especially with all the information available now on the Internet. For anyone with newly-diagnosed tinnitus, I recommend to Google the symptom and explore what professionals have to say. A tractor forum may not be the best place for info on this subject. Granted, you will get a lot of anecdotal replies here.

Your right about the many causes. No real cures yet either.
I have had high frequency tinnitus for 30 years in both ears. As I age and my hearing gets worse, so does the tinnitus.
Inner ear hearing aids helped cover it up 15 years ago pretty well. Not anymore. I have progressed to BTE aids 2 years ago since they can be made more powerful, and I put them in as soon as I get up, since my ears are really screeching at wake up. The aids still help but don't cover up the high pitch constant noise between my ears, and they help me hear my wife, particularly if looking at her and some TV, news type. Stuff with music backgrounds and people talking low is just annoying.
So in my case, my brain can not hide the constant ringing any more even with multi-programmed hearing aids.
At least I'm not totally deaf yet, and appreciate the hearing I have left, even with the tinnitus..
Wearing hearing protection on the tractor, chain sawing, or working in the shop is a good idea, and I wish I had done it
much sooner. Now with the ringing, and no hearing aids, wearing hearing protection really make the tinnitus squeal worse.

Sure sounds much like mine. I first saw a doctor (ENT specialist) about 1980-81 about the ringing in my ears; didn't even know it had a name back then. And he told me, "You don't need hearing aids YET, but you will." I got my first ones in 1992, new ones in 2001, 2006, and 2012. And I put them in when I get up, take them out when I get ready to go to bed.

Many years ago, I never turned the radio off in the car; now for a lot of years, I never turn it on. I don't watch TV that isn't closed captioned. I usually have no problem with understanding someone, one on one, but if two people talk at the same time, there's a good chance I won't understand what either of them said.

And perhaps not the wisest choice, but I only wear hearing protection when shooting my handguns.

Crash.....Here is a Cicada sound track. My tinnitus is about at level 6 on my computer speakers.....

http://www.cicadamania.com/audio/princeton2004.mp3

Thanks Motor

Very similar, just a somewhat higher pitch. When I moved the volume thing down to about 1/2 way they were just about even.
What the ear doctor told me was that the noise is a tone that my ear can not hear. Then it generates the sound on its own.

Damage occurs even when shooting a .22LR rifle....hard to believe ain't it? And to think of the 10's of thousands of .22 I have burned up in my life...
