Tinnitus making me mental

I was in China back in the early 90's and a bike went by that had little cages the size of a big hen egg, each one had a cricket or two in it and they were all singing. All the cages tied together were the size of two 100 lb feed sacks. That is what my ears sound like. It all started when I shot my .44 at a deer. Not only did I get the crickets I did not get the deer. That has been almost 6 years and it stays about the same.

Yeah, I used to shoot .22 indoors on a comptetive team as a youth.... no hearing protection. Bad decision. So is listening to loud rock music in a car, concert or with headphones. The damage is permanent, not temporary. I always wear earplugs now, on tractor, pushing mower, weed eater, power equipment indoors, outdoors, etc... but the thing that makes my ears hurt most is a hammer and nails indoors. Its like theres a needle in my eardrum with each hit. OUCH!

Tequila has failed....neeeext

Moss, yep, shooting, power tools, music etc. I still use earbud headphones when out riding the bike.....I hate to lose that, but even at reasonable levels it might be causing more damage.

Lots of us here have it. The causes and manifestations are so varied, it is entirely unpredictable. It comes, it goes, it's loud, it's quiet, etc. I have four different manifestations of it. A continuous high frequency tone in one ear. A low hum (112Hz) only in the absence of sound in the other. Frequent, short-lived "eeeeeee" episodes in both ears and finally a screechy, high frequency sound in one ear that only comes out during the night after I've been sleeping soundly.
Good thing the brain has "neural plasticity" which means it will adapt to a variety of conditions, including tinnitus, and will ignore them after some time. "Time" being the key word. For tinnitus, it's usually 6 months to a year for that to happen but different for everybody.

That's the way I describe mine. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Some days it's louder than others. 1 day I hardly notice it and, others I can't stand it

That's the way mine is. I started to notice it about 4 years ago.

Give it time and it'll get worse. I now have the cicada sound continuously, as well as the sound of heavy traffic a ways in the distance, and also sounds like a diesel tractor idling the other side of that traffic.

After about 18 years of taking Indocin tinnitus and balance issues were getting bad. Not sure why fish oil but I moved to it and stopped the Indocin. In a very short time the tinnitus, balance and mental fog went away. That was after a very nasty face first drive in to our dense grade drive way when coming down the deck to go to a homecoming in early August 2004.

There are many causes but after the fact in my case it must have been drug induced. Hope the best for all with tinnitus. It seems like many doctors are stressed when it is mentioned by a patient since it is hard to find the cause and stop it.

I would trade the eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's for the diesel tractor sound. I guess I would say I have medium at times to loud. It's hard to describe

I've had it in the left ear for about 20 years. Cicada sound may be about right, but I don't really know what a cicada sound is. Always described it like a field full of grass hoppers.
Had the full battery of ear tests many years ago. It's only in the left ear, gets loud & dies down a little for no apparent reason. Left ear hears a little slower than the the right one.

Big surprise is I can actually hear better in the left ear than the right.

I have slept with the TV or radio on for years, Want to think about something other than the noise in my ear.

Hate to say it but Tequila or beer do not help. Shucks it would be such a fun cure.
