Ford says no to Diesel F-150

I really have high hopes for the next F150 coming in '14. I think we will see some really impressive fuel economy numbers from Ford next year. The competition will be great for everyone!

Here is the RAM's EPA posted MPG numbers for 2014.

Yeah, I know it was slated for the 1500. I just think it's overkill for a half-ton truck. Heck, the 1st Duramax had what, 300/500? I know the first 6.0 from Ford had 300/550!

The 6.0 was actually 325 HP and 570 FT TQ when introduced in 2003.5

You were right-on on HP, close on torque. 325/560 when first released. The '05 saw the bump to 570 ft-lbs. I remember now that the numbers were first 550 ft-lbs, but before the '03 hit the lots, Ford upped the numbers to 560 to jump ahead of GM, which I think was at 555..

6.0L Power Stroke Specs

At any rate, 300/520 would be a great "entry level" diesel in a 3/4 ton truck and is way more than necessary in a half ton I think.

The 7.3 in my '99 F-350 SuperDuty that I got in January '98 had 235hp and 500 torque. Couldn't believe the power that truck had. The turbo in that engine could really sing when you were pulling hard.

I'm not positive, but I think the first Cummins in the Dodge trucks (1988?) was rated at 165 hp. I think that was there ratings clear up until the mid or late 1990's. These trucks would also haul down over 20 mpg easy.

And 400 torque, debuted in the fall of 1988 as a 1989.

Those early trucks had a 727 torqueflite with no overdrive. If you ever have looked under the hood of an early 12 valve Cummins, you could climb in next the engine and have enough room to sleep in there. A lot of room and very simple and easy to work on. If Dodge came out with a 165hp diesel today, half ton or heavy duty, they would get laughed at.

There was a 5 speed O/D manual I do believe..
