Temperature light test:

Slip the connector up where it meets the sensor, and ground the connector using a jumper wire. This should make dash light should come on. If not, check the bulb.

I may be wrong but I think he has a gauge. :confused3: After further investigation on my 2002d I find that if you do as California suggested the gauge will move. I don't know I would hold the ground for a long period but toching it to see if the gauge works will help determine whether it is your sensor or not.

My volt meter doesn't have Ac or DC selection, so I am assuming it's auto ?

Ok, Dynamo - just put the black probe onto one terminal and red onto the other and it's reading 12.40v
Put the red probe onto both the red and yellow terminals and the black probe to the body it's the same reading as the dynamo, around 12.36 - 12.39v. Am I doing the test correctly ?
The above tests were done at 1800rpm.

your plug may be for the headlights?
If the plug is near the battery and has small wires, it may be for the Japan-spec battery water level sensor. I don't think you can buy that special battery in the US.

I've read here that its dash light will go out if you jumper the ends of the cable, or maybe plug one wire into the other to complete the circuit.

Never heard of an automatic volt meter. There should be a coupling with two wires in it not far out of the dynamo. If you unplug that and touch 1 probe wire to one terminal and the other probe wire to the other terminal you should get 20 or so ac volts and I don't think in would read anything of dc. Naturally, you are touching to the dynamo end of the plug.

the 12.36 dc volts you are getting coming out of the regulator is telling us either the dynamo or regulator is bad. Only way to know which is to get the ac voltage check out of the dynamo.

Dont think that is right, but im not sure? I think you need to put your black probe on the ground on the block and put the red probe into the ends one at the time to see what you get.

You can reverse the colors, it does not matter you will just get a negative symbol if its reversed.

Well, I'm back again. Clemsonfor, I just went out and double checked my 2002d and if the probes are put on both terminals coming out of the dynamo I get 18+ ac volts running about 1800 rpm. Doesn't matter which probe touches which terminal. On the other hand, touching the red probe to either of the terminals and the black to an engine ground will not get any reading. So what I am assuming is one terminal on the plug is ground and one is hot. :confused3:

Will have another go tomorrow on both the temp gauge and dynamo / regulator and post the outcome.

Really appreciate everyone's input. It would be great to identify these faults and get this tractor working as it should. Cheers for now
