I am 66.

I was in the US Navy from 17 - 21.

Now that my friends are at the age where they are being stricken with cancer in various forms.....

I think of the awful solvents we used routinely in the Navy, bare-handed, which are banned today, and I sweat the Big C.

Gas and Diesel are both loaded with Benzene. I do not know about grease.

Exposure is NOW, medical problems crop up years later.

I helped my older brother seal and caulk around all of his windows to seal it up- old victorian. He had a habit after applying the silicone caulk of smoothing it in with his fingers. But to make it work better, he'd stick his finger into his mouth to moisten it , then smooth the caulk. I don't know why he didn't have a cup of water handy- too much bother I guess. I figure he ingested caulking overtime. If he had that approach to that job, I'm sure he had a similar approaches to other jobs - who knows but he died from brain cancer at 63.

You need to go back to man school and toughen up. " I don't like oil on my fingers". C'mon. You're kidding right? Maybe baby wipes in the can too?

Every now and then someone wrights something that makes me laugh outloud, and then I have to explain to the mrs why. It happened again today, thanks.:drink:

Handiwipes to clean your hands? For goodness sake, man, are you not wearing pants? That is the proper way to clean one's hands.

I normally have a red shop rag dangling out of my pants. But I'm cheap and use the same one till I get dirtier when I use it, the I finally get a new rag. A few years back I started using gloves and still do most of the time. Took a while to find some that fit me though. I dont mind dirty hands, but I hate having grime under my finger nails.

I just have a few pairs of mechanics gloves around, and a pile of rags. Keep the gloves dry and clean(er) and they last a very long time. Hands come out totally clean (but get washed with dish soap after working anyway).

There's little point in simply trying to wipe off the grease and grime if you let yourself suffer the exposure in the first place anyway. You aren't going to get it out from under and around your fingernails. Cuts and scrapes will let those nasty chemicals directly into your bloodstream. Wear some gloves, for pete's sake! The leather(ish) mechanics gloves are super comfy and don't make me sweat too much unless its over 85 degrees.

Handi-wipes? heck no, that's ridiculous.

I remember when I was a little boy seeing my Dad use a slice of bacon and just rub and rub it around in his hands like soap to cut all the grease off...It really worked and he did that instead of using gasoline or solvent...there were not many safe solvents back then ...so the bacon worked...Remember that ...in a pinch it still works when your run out of the hand soap grease cutters like Go Jo...

I always have shop towels on the tractor to clean whatever. Try Mullen leaves instead - pine straw!! Wow
