2210 Plastic Hydrostatic Cooling Fan Replacement

/ 2210 Plastic Hydrostatic Cooling Fan Replacement #31
I´ve replaced my hydro fan twice; first time I did it right not fun. The second time I cut the fan in half and installed it with 2 bolts on each side, glued the seam with 2 part epoxy plastic glue I figured for $23.00 for fan I would try it. It's been well over 2 yrs now and its still holding. If it happens again I'm cutting it in half again.

every good thread deserves a pump from the dead every 2 or 3 yrs.. LOL

I was not aware of the plastic fan when I was seriously considering the 2305.. Now I am so glad i went with the 2320 instead..

There is a very good fan guard and a seperate filter guard made for the 2305. They can be left on with the MMM. You can find them from time to time on the following ebay site:

enventive | eBay

There are also several links in the forum that can be found concerning the guards.

I have the c-clip off of the crankshaft but am having a hard time driving that pin out. What did you do to make it slide? Is it threaded?

Don't know the model of your tractor but on my 2305 there are 2 pins, one inside the other. I removed the inside one first before removing the larger one.

I have a 2210 but I think I have the two pin thing too. One inside the other. Did you just punch yours out? If so, what did you use to do that? If it is that hard to get the pin out, how hard is it putting it back in?

I got the two pins out and managed to work the front universal off of the crank shaft. THe problem is I cannot get the rear universal off of the transaxle housing. I can move the drive shaft forward but I still have almost 1/2 left on the transmission shaft. I think I will have to take the universal apart to get it out the rest of the way. Will be trying that tomorrow.

Got the yoke off of the transmission and I had to take apart the universal to get enough shaft movement to get off the splines. Problem is that I now see my universal is scarred up. I am trying to get that part from JD but they want to sell me an entire drive shaft with universals and yokes. JD wants $650 for the entire drive shaft with universals on it. I am quickly becoming a John Deere hater. They pulled that same garbage on my 54c mower deck when the gearbox blew a bearing. They did not sell parts for the gearbox but wanted to sell a $600+ dollar gearbox instead of a bearing. I did find the bearing on my own and had it replaced for $50. THis is seriously unacceptable. Does Kubota do this kind of junk?

Ok, I got the fan off, or what was left of it. The problem is I cannot possibily get the new fan on the way I took the old one off. Seems I have to remove the bar that joins the two chassis halves together and lifts the mower deck. I need to consult the manual on this one.

I really think pulling the tranmission would have been easier.

Update. I got the dimensions of the joint wrong. The cap is 20mm but it measures about 55mm accross, not 78mm as I measured before. I should stop using digital calipers. :) Anyhow, I looked again on the JD site and noticed that part number M802832, which is used in the front drive shaft for the FWD unit has dimensionally the same size joint. JD does sell this part but they do not sell the same sized part for the main drive shaft. The only difference between the two universal is the main drive shaft is externally snapped and the FWD drive shaft is internally snapped. Would it be a problem using a ujoint made for internal snapping on yoke made for external snapping?
