We have the EAB here and it came in on firewood, my place is just off Interstate and had started seeing the bugs maybe 4 years ago and yet they have not included our county just yet (that I know of) on the list. Moving firewood around long distance is bad and causes the spread much faster. I grew up with the destruction of the Elms from DED, watched as our street was clear cut from what was once giant beautiful trees to a year or so later some saplings were planted. Most of these trees were ground up and or burnt in the early days to try and stop the spread of Dutch Elm Disease. I have been cutting Elm that dies 10 years ago on my place now, and still have a number standing dead (they were Red Elm and Slippery elm which were less suitable for bugs but eventually die just the same.)
I will be taking out some ASH this winter for cutting into boards.
If you are going to be transporting be sure only to take dead trees with 0 bark left on it and or have KILN (high heat dried.)

In Medina County the Ash is being wiped out. 5 years and there won't be much left here.
