My girlfriend worked at Pizza Hut on Thanksgiving night while going to college 30 years ago, so that's not anything new this year.

Having worked industrial shift work for many years I became immune to holidays and weekends. The only good thing about it was earning double time for the holidays. I think if an employer is going to be open on a holiday it should be voluntary if possible and the employees paid well.

I remember when I first started driving in the 70's I made the mistake of failing to fill up the car with gas before heading to grandma's house for the holidays. I soon realized I did not have enough gas to get home and no stations open. I ended up staying an extra day at grandma's.

Now days we expect the corner station to be open 24x7.

They dont have to be open, but there is no reason the pumps cannot be.

Yup, stores won't be open here to in Maine. My wife and I are OK with that. Granted LLBean is an exception, but they were 24x7 before the blue laws got passed. I guess I'm OK with that under the circumstances, but we won't be shopping tomorrow.
