Post hole auger

Would i have enough flow on my l45 to run a post hole auger. Remove be bucket and have a quick attach we have auxiliary line for the thumb running there so that way there If we get a rock I could easily remove the PHA and put on my bucket and I could also apply the down force compared to a 3 point hitch model We have really sandy soil and want to know how it would work!
Everything attachment has a model but I really want to make sure I'm not just waisting my time

I'm like ya, I'd want to run if off a 3rd function and keep the bucket curl function if possible.

As to whether it will work. Yes it will. It just may be slow. Dependant on your hydraulic GPM.

Yes you will have enough hydraulic flow to use a hydraulic PHD. If you have sandy loam ground, why bother? I believe that a 3pt PTO unit would be less money to purchase. If you are worried about down pressure, you can always get a down pressure unit for the 3pt PHD. The problem with the hydraulic units out on the loader is then you have lost the use of the loader. Lot of people like them though. I think that switching back and forth from the bucket and the PHD would get old real fast. But maybe it is just me.

As far as using the curl function, I think that that would be the last resort, if you didn't have any other types of remotes.

If that is your tractor and Bachoe in your avatar, I'd put it on the backhoe. I have provisions for both the backhoe and the loader bucket. I like the backhoe position best. Like MtnViewRanch state.................with it on the loader or even on the side of the bucket, you lose the use of your bucket. Can load posts in the bucket when it has to be 7 foot off the ground to clear the auger.

Post #84 on tells the problem with loader vs backhoe augering. I can auger in and lift the whole rear of the tractor and put weight on the auger. But haven't needed that much. Usually just augering is with dipper stick and boom force works.

I have been putting a bulkhead in on my pond's dam for a tree. I would move all my equipment in the bucket, along with posts and 2x12s in the bucket with the auger on the backhoe. Here is the link to the thread here.

Ok thank guys I just need to find how much flow I have from my auxiliary line going to the thumb I'd rather use that line because it's foot Peddle operated and I would not have to take off my hands off the controls and I could also go in reverse right? If ever I get stuck on a root!

Not true Jim. As the loader arms come down, they radius back a little. The difference will be you have to pull forward on each hole a little to keep the auger straight.

This is one reason they make vertical lift skid steers and tracked mini loaders now. Well, besides easier to pull up to a dump truck and judge the distance to dump.

If you hang the auger off the side of the bucket, it will be vertical most of the time.

Auger off the bucket is ideal for many reasons as has been stated.

Just pull the auger off and place in a holder on the top of the bucket. Now you have full use of the bucket.

What disadvantage does anyone see.

The hyd auger on the bucket side, provides a better view.

You have down pressure.

You have fwd and rev.

Your post are in the bucket.

There are probably more good reasons to install the hyd auger on the bucket side.
