Looking for some opinions. We obviously have plenty of wood on the property and I would like to heat primarily with wood. The house has a wood burning fireplace, but I don't believe it is anything that would actually heat the home, I will need to check about that. My thought had been that I should get a decent wood stove that is rated for mobile home installation and install that in the house. Then when we build, I could take that with us to the new house. So I am wondering if you guys think that sounds crazy, and if not what are your suggestions on a wood stove that can heat 2400 square feet. Thanks.

Not too sure about wood heaters. We always had one when I was growing up, but since that was in NW Florida, it didn't have to be all that efficient. It looks like everything is coming along at a good clip. {once Uncle Sugar has his permit money} I noticed how close those small trees were to the house. If they are going to get real big, you might think about taking out the closest row. But that can wait for a few years before you have to make that decision.

Congrats on the future addition to the family. Well wishes and prayers go out to you, your wife and all the rest of the family.

Larro,
The small trees will be left for a bit, I am not sure they will make it with all the construction and earth moving going on around them. If they do make it, we will leave them until they become a problem and then either cut them down as Christmas trees, or sell them as landscaping trees.

Thank you very much for the prayers, they are greatly appreciated.

Depends on what type of fireplace they installed in your home. You are correct in that it must be a mobile home approved model, which are more expensive and not that great. IIRC, some have double walls so that much of your heat goes up the flue. One thing to remember is that open flame is a moisture creating phenomenom. Moisture and mobile homes are enemies of each other. My mfg warranty stated no open flame devices or gas stove or gas oven or gas dryer....just trying to get my point across.

1 more thing, you have to have a mobile home approved heater installed by a licensed masters HVAC installer and signed off or your insurance is null and void if you have a fire destroy your home. When I looked into this, it was going to cost a minimum of $2500 (stove + install). You'll have to run the numbers to see if that works for you. Your heating requirements will be far, far greater than mine. Maybe someone has had 1 installed and can chime in here with pros and cons. Last I looked, possibly a better insert would be possibly a good value.
Good luck.

We have 5 goats, maybe some babies soon. For now they are basically used for clearing out some of the areas. We've planted mostly peach, with some apple, pear and papa's. Also did blueberry and raspberry bushes. Last summer the goats ate most of the raspberry bushes and the birds ate all the blueberry's. I'll be making some good enclosures over the winter.

Sounds great. I would love to see some pictures when you get them done.

One more thing about fireplace upgrades in mobile homes. So many mobile home trailers have been burning down here in Texas, that the state sends out a high fallutin' Fire marshall to investigate each burn site to give it a real detective going over. They try to make sure folks aren't burning them down to collect. I would guess that 4 or more have burned in the last year or 2 around here.

I checked with our insurance company and they are fine with EPA approved mobile home approved stoves/inserts.

Today my dad and I got the gas line run, the risers installed, and the metal pipe through the wall. We put fittings on both ends and charged it to 20 pounds, holds pressure no problem. Too dark for pictures when we were done.

But here is a picture of my new back blade to push snow with this winter.
