Saturday, I ran three tanks of fuel through the chain saw cutting up a couple smaller trees and one large tree. In about the same time I spent in the gym, I burned around 1,400 calories! I think I burned more than that because the chainsaw engine seems to interfere with the heart rate monitor. All I was doing was cutting the tree into rounds so I can split. When I was splitting wood over the summer, I was burning up to 1,600-1,700 calories in a bit over two hours which produced about 1/3 of a cord of wood.
After splitting, I have to move the wood to the house.
Dan, do yourself a favor and cut the logs in 8 foot sections to trailer them home. Hopefully you have a better setup for cutting at home than in the forest. Cut them into 16" pieces.
