Being on the West Coast of Canada, my options for purchasing implements are limited. The main regional supplier sells two brands of light duty flail mower, Caroni (Italian) and AGRIEase (Chinese rebrand?). The best options for my situation cost $1900 for the AGRIEase and $3700 for the Caroni. This mower will not be seeing tons of use, 3-4 times a year to mow 4 acres of pasture. I'd rather purchase the AGRIEase, purely based on cost.

The problem is I'm getting mixed info as to whether or not the B2920 can handle it. The Agirease mower weighs 700 pounds, is 56 inches wide and is rated for 30-35 HP (though I can't tell if that is supposed to be the engine or the PTO rating... The listing column is under a small tractor image).

The regional supplier claims the B2920 can't handle the Agriease, while the local dealer claims it can.

Opinions?

Surely not to be stupid but>>>>>>>>>> Is a flail mower what we in the south of the United States call a bush hog?......A large implement with like a huge blade inside a housing that runs parallel with the ground and cuts small trees, brush, weeds, and grass??????? THANKS........God bless........Dennis

This is usually like a drum with butterfly like blades on it - that is what I suspect...

I know there are some good sales professionals in the valley - try Prairiecoast Equipment...

Just bear in mind that horse power when running a rear attachment off the pto is related to the tractor's PTO horsepower, not the engine just sitting there being rated. The PTO hp on your tractor is normally a lot of hp less than what the decal stuck on your hood states. You already know this, but I thought I'd throw it out there that your tractor is a 21 hp tractor when it comes to running PTO devices. This according to Kubota.com's specs for the B2920. The somewhat inflated "engine hp" rating can be achieved in many ways. The "real" working hp of any tractor is the PTO hp rating, in my view. FWIW

If an implement is rated for 30-35 hp, they may be referring to the PTO rating of the tractor. I'd have serious hesitation in buying an implement with that requirement. Salesmen "over-sell" stuff to move them off their lots. They often blow some smoke, but you'd be really stuck and take a beating on re-selling that unit should you find you cannot run it properly. That'd be a huge gamble and one I'd not personally take.

If a mower is actually using 30 hp at x speed, then it require 15 hp at x/2 speed. But there are some other factors that probably need to be considered. 3 pth rating, tractor weight, ballast, desired speed, are you a hydro transmission so you can maximize ground speed to load on the mower, how much hp does your tractor need to move itself over the terrain (hilly?)? When you think about it, this mower probably requires <5 hp to run if it's not cutting anything, and requires a lot more than 30 hp if your cutting something really thick at a fast speed. What it really uses is somewhere in-between and dependant on what your cutting and how fast.
Gut says your probably ok, you might have to go slower in heavy stuff. The 30-35 hp rating means the mower can handle this pto horsepower and not tear its gearbox apart rather than a requirement for the tractor it attaches to.

These are really good points. Well stated.

You shouldn't have any problems. I ran into the same situation this summer. Wanted a 48" flail for my B2620, not in stock. Bought a 60" EFG from Value Leader Implements in Oregon.
Ran the mower through 4 ft. high Johnson grass with no problems; tractor didn't bog at all.

I think it depends on what you are are cutting. How thick & how tall + how fast you want to cut. My B2620 handles a old 60" Mott with no problems, but our grass isn't very thick or tall. I estimate the Mott weighs 650-700 lbs.
