Re: John Deere "E" Series Hydraulic Systems Failures Overheating, Stuck Valves, etc

i have virtually the same tractor, for the hydraulics to get that hot to where the actual fuel tank starts to melt, 3x's for someone is beyond comprehension?? i understand and totally agree with you, it doesnt make sense, the fluid would be boiling to the point where all other components of the system itself would have given up well before, let alone the elements in the filter itself. believe nothing on the internet.

Sorry you feel that way. Not sure why you are on here if that's how you feel???

I was gonna look for the thread, but it wouldn't matter. You'd say it was the operator's fault, just like JD tried to do.

Re: John Deere "E" Series Hydraulic Systems Failures Overheating, Stuck Valves, etc

OK Guys, so here are a few more items to consider :
Failure #1 -- The hissing sound coming from Tranny Dipstick Tube, Air IN the oil ON the Dipstick, Failure #1 and Melted Fuel Tank #1 --- JD built these units with a gasket between SCV (#1) and the Tranny Cover --- supposedly when the oil gets TOO HOT (?) the gasket cuts the O-rings, the system sucks air, and the rear hitch fails to lift. OK--- if the 45-to-75 "E" Series has been out since say 2009 or so --- why hasn't JD authorized ALL DEALERS to take ALL UN-SOLD UNITS and take out the gasket and replace with gasket goo ---- BEFORE IT IS SOLD TO CUSTOMERS WHO PAY GOOD MONEY FOR A TRACTOR WITH WORKING 3 POINT HITCH ??????

Some dealers have also identified the Tranny Cover itself is MIS-Drilled in the oil port-hole between the SCV #1 and the tranny cover. This causes oil flow to not be as-designed, and heat up the oil. Not the usual culprit of the problem, but then why don't all dealers know to inspect the Tranny Cover for this possible failure --- INSTEAD OF BLAMING IT ON OPERATOR ERROR ?

"E" Series 83 HP & larger --- notice real closely --- JD RAISED the fuel tank mounting on the 83 Hp models and up, to where there is an inch-or-so of air space between the Tranny Cover and the Fuel Tank Bottom. GEE, did that just accidentally happen ?

AGAIN -- RECALL SUGGESTION -- in addition to correcting the O-Ring -to-Gasket problem mentioned above --- WHY NOT RECALL ALL UNITS, particularly those experiencing overheating problems, with a Modified Fuel Tank Mounting that raises the 45-to-75 E Series Fuel Tanks an inch-or-so above the Transmission Cover ????????????????????

By the way, if anybody cares --- I am about 5'10", and weigh around 170. The same I weighed in High School. I'm 59 now. It's NOT my FAT *** hitting the lever !!!! Also, I was raised on a corn & cattle farm. I am not some suburbanite who bought a green tractor because it was a cool color.

AND on that point, when I told the JD Rep with a poor customer approach that I doubted it was my fat *** causing the problem again and again, I pointed out what I thought were 3 significant points ---
1-See above comment about my body type and weight.
2-IF it were my fat *** bumping the lever, then it still shouldn't me MY responsibility OR my JD Dealer's Service Manager's responsibility to decide how to bend the SCV lever so a fat *** doesn't hit the lever !!! JD should issue re-designed levers and a service campain to all 45-to75 E Series tractor owners at no cost to change to the new , re-designed, "Fat *** Lever"
3-IF I had been disking with a 3 point-mounted disk, I could MAYBE see that I could have bumped the SCV lever on occasion, what with raising the disk at every row end, and dropping the 3-point after turnaround ----- But I was SHREDDING !! I dropped the shredder down a 8 am, and lifted it to go home a 3 PM, and the hitch didn't work

One last thing I learned by my inspection visits --- the 3rd replacement SCV #1 valve had some code-marks engraved on the valve, where it had been inspected at least twice, before it was sent to my Dealer's Service Department. So, does this prove JD KNOWS some of the SCV valves are sub-par, below spec, etc, and some are more-carefully inspected that the generic SCV valve placed on the manufacturing assembly line ?

Food for thought !

Re: John Deere "E" Series Hydraulic Systems Failures Overheating, Stuck Valves, etc

can this event be replicated at the dealer? if this/these units have the potential to heat up that much, the liability would/could be enormous. the potential to start a fuel fire, fields/barns/garages...etc. this is not acceptable, leave the machine at the dealer, obviously the manager/owner is not doing anything, call jd tell them that this is not acceptable and send them notice that they are aware on responsible. if nothing, call consumer complaints and have your legal rep send a registered letter with intent to act. burn your barn down after a repair and see whos on the hook??

Re: John Deere "E" Series Hydraulic Systems Failures Overheating, Stuck Valves, etc

@ GYPSY - "Did dealer try to replicate problem ?"
Please keep in mind that the problem occurs when using a JD MX-8 shredder, cutting green Bermuda on a 14 acre patch -----

The first attempt to replicate the problem, they put a 6 foot Squeeler (light weight, single gearbox) bush hog on the tractor. Placed unit on an asphalt parking lot, in PARK, and let it run for several hours. Problem did not replicate --- anybody wonder why ? (NO LOAD from the shredder, transmission not motivating the unit, and a very small light shredder turning instead of an MX-8)

I pointed out the fallacy of this "test".

So then they took the wash rack tech, let him drive it around the asphalt parking lot with the 6 foot Squeeler and failed to replicate the problem. Anybody wonder why ? (Again, no real load to the systems)

I even authorized the Dealer-Owner to take it to one of his farms and shred under actual conditions if he wanted to really test and fix my unit. He declined, and that's when they returned it to me with the 2nd fuel tank, calling it "repaired".

I am adding all of this info so that you other JD "E" Series owners can be aware of what I have gone through, and what I have learned and fought for to get my unit repaired. So far, since the 3rd tank install and replacement of complete Rear Hitch system, unit appears to be ok. As soon as the Bermuda gets green again, you can bet I'll try to shred before the warranty goes out.

Re: John Deere "E" Series Hydraulic Systems Failures Overheating, Stuck Valves, etc

Couv, I'm hoping you now have the problem fixed. I totally understand your frustration. The honeymoon for sure is over in regards to this tractor purchase huh. Bummer. I'd be just like you. I'd question whether it's fixed or not. Only time will tell. :(
