2014 GM Truck Recall

   / 2014 GM Truck Recall #31
They closed the Truck assembly plant in Oshawa in 2007-8 They make a Cadillac, Impala's, Regals,Malibu's and Camaro's but I think the Camaro is headed to the States for assembly in 2015

The new RWD Chevy SS is currently built it Australia ( where the Pontiac G-8 was built ). It's on the list to come back to the states for assembly in 15 also.

Happy to see a rwd sedan come back to GM. I enjoyed the Impala SS of the 90s. My ex gf dad had one, pretty quick for a big car. I owned 2 5.3 engines, only one with afm. Did not use oil. It did seem to have a slight hesitation when switching from 4 back to 8, which I found annoying. We traded it for a Tundra. Still own 1 GM, my 70 Chevelle. It also has afm- actively manages to burn fuel with 400+ hp and 4.11 gears!!

I have one of those too...396 with 4:11's..Not bad on gas until I put my foot in the carb..Odd that gas guage never came close to where it was after.

My 2008 Impala had AFM and after 130,000 miles of police use, it didn't burn any oil. I believe that at some point, GM updated the operating parameters so that the engine would switch back to all cylinders every 10 minutes so that the inactive cylinders didn't cool off completely.

Perhaps it's just a selected few who have this issue with GM vehicles. I've owned nothing but GM for the past 30 years and none of them have ever used more than 1/4 of a quart between oil changes...There are some anti-GM people on this board who would like everyone to believe that all GM's drink oil. It just ain't so. I've had numerous 5.7's, 6.2's, 5.3's, 5.0's, 4.3's, a 6.2 Diesel and whatever that 5cyl is in the wife's Hummer and none of them consumed any material amount of oil even if run to 200k. Can't speak to the 8.1 as I've never owned one.

At least GM jumped on the self-imposed recall. Another brand had to burn a few garages down before they addressed their cruise control problem.

The only GM vehicle that I have owned that consumed any appreciable amount of oil was designed to consume a certain amount (Cadillac Northstar). My GM vehicles have not used any more oil than other brands in my opinion. My Fords have used just as much, while none have been abnormal. Probably the worst is my Mercedes, but it is tolerable and constant over the last 200k miles.

I thought something was wrong with a Chevy if it didn't use oil! :confused3:
Dont know about chevy, but we used to say: If a British engine doesnt leak, you need to shut it down and top up the oil level immediately... :)

That is a Detroit Diesel here. If it's not leaking, it's broke.

Well I have 2007 Silverado with a 5.3 AFM engine that uses 1 qt of oil every 2k miles. GM's response is to claim that is acceptable oil consumption. Don't pat them on the back too hard.

Yup! Me too ......apparently they directed oil spray jet at the deactivated cylinders that cooled off too much and stuck the piston rings! "Solution" is to add detergent to the oil every so often = FAIL

I got rid of that truck and bought Dodge HEMI. Couldn't be more pleased.

Funny. The last car we had was a Chrysler 300 with 20k miles and it would go through 2+ qts every 5k miles. We moved on to a different make also.
