Landpride grapple for SCUT?

Chris, as you point out it looks like Land Pride's arithmetic is wrong. I got out my old BX24 literature and it says the lift capacity for the LA240 loader on my tractor is 518lbs (500mm fwd, max height). Given that the rating is given 500mm forward (of pivot point, I assume) the 518lbs must be in addition to the bucket weight. LP says their grapple weighs 156lbs and it's 24lbs heavier than the bucket. Thus, my pencil says we just subtract 24 from 518 and get a lift capacity for the grapple of 494lbs at 500 mm fwd. I cannot tell from their pictures or the video but their rating may be while using the Kubota Quick Hitch which weighs something and moves the pivot point forward. In any event, good point you noted. This is important to me as I have a lot of big limestone rocks to move around here in Texas. I've used my backhoe and thumb but it's hard to get a good grip and they slip out if you don't get ahold at the balance point. This grapple looks like a good solution.

Need to bump this thread... hoping someone will shortly post that they are a proud owner and report first impressions. Of course I seem to post when the majority here are sleeping... never said my timing was good. That's why I used to adjust my timing all the time until the automakers took that option away.

We are also anxious to see the impressions of this grapple. Ted has been considering a true subcompact grapple for a while now, but he is unsure of what you'll be able to accomplish with one.

Currently, the 50" single lid Wicked Grapple is our lightest grapple at 255 pounds.

We can easily make a much lighter grapple, but is there enough demand?

I'm in serious negotiations with myself to buy one. LOL Got a decent price from a New Hampshire dealer. The 3rd function/diverter set up adds another $600-$700 to the price. That's a lot but would be plug and play vs having to cobble something together from Surplus Center, etc., offerings, then fabricate mounts, etc. I have been going back and forth on adding a grapple thumb to my existing bucket, going with the Kubota OEM quick attach forks, or this grapple. Then someone earlier posted that BXpanded is working on quick attach forks that use their existing pin on forks, which I already have. I know a grapple is not the same as having pallet forks, but what I want is to be able to easily pick up loose logs, brush, etc.

So as of this moment anyway, I'm seriously considering buying this grapple, then maybe down the line pick up the BXpanded quick attach forks since I'd already have the Kubota QA adapter (needed for the LP grapple) and the BXpanded pin on forks - would just need whatever carrier he comes up with. Decisions, decisions - it's only money. :confused2:

Oh, by the way, the NH dealer said the LP grapple won't be in stock until their March shipment, so even if I bought one, I wouldn't have it until March.

Okay Chris... I might have to follow you on this journey. Let me jump on the side of you that is arguing for it! Then I can learn from your pioneering.

Gotta believe there's a market for a reasonably priced BX grapple given the number of BX's Kubota has sold over the years. I would make it compatible with Kubota's new QA adapter for the BX series since it would give people flexibility to mount other implements - snowplows, forks, etc. Right now, there's this LP grapple and the Tach-N-Go version that I'm aware of. Maybe there's another grapple out there compatible with the BX FEL set up, but either I"m not aware of it or have forgotten about it. Weight is key so that lifting ability isn't too impacted, and of course price. Would love to see what you could come up with as far as a SCUT-specific grapple.

Stay tuned. Hope to make a go-no go decision this weekend, though I'm waiting for a response from this NH dealer on one or two details.

[ive got the LP grapple along with their valve on order. Dealer says it should be here by end of month which is rapidly approaching. I plan on just pinning it on and then will consider the Kubota QA. I plan on installing it myself. What could go wrong with that?

Excellent... please report when installing and first uses.

Update on my end. Received a call back late Friday from another dealer that has the LP grapple in stock and is about $100 cheaper to boot. Plan on calling him tomorrow to firm up my purchase. Hopefully, if all goes well I'll have it by next weekend. Not sure how soon I'll get it mounted and the 3rd function installed since by late next week, high temps will be around 20 degrees. No heat in my garage which is where I'll be doing the work.
