Been "car shopping" lately?

I was asked for my driver's license and SS number and keys to our car, once. I said I'll show you my DL when we go for the test drive or I'll go elsewhere. He came back and found us sitting in our car, to tell us those were the rules, to which I said, "Have a nice day."

Asking for a deposit was once common, surprised y'all never experienced that? The reasoning was "to show the finance guy we where serious" of course that was when they all used the payment square too. I remember being with my dad at Ford dealer when we lived in Sugarland in 76, same thing, needed a check......Dad used language I had never heard too:thumbsup:

It may happen but I can't imagine being asked to sign something to prove I was negotiating in good faith. I would get up and leave with the only comment something like "are you nuts? I'll go buy elsewhere". Who died and left these car sales people in charge of the transaction? Please tell me this is not a common occurrence.

Yea it happened. This was 2005. Dealer has been bought out since but still will never set foot back on that lot.

I was reading the paper the other day (Jan 14th) it was talking about fords aluminum revolution and it said that Ford makes an estimated $10,000 profit on every f-series truck it sells.

I have purchased several new vehicles and mostly ford or mercury's . I take the sticker price and deduct 25% of the price. and stay with it. some time the salesman gives a good reason why cannot sell .tell him to call with in couple of days if changes his mind.
I know the dealer ship needs a profit but tell them I don't mind the idea but I was paying for the bill. in cash by check.
seldom failed to get the car.
One time 1970 the salesman gave me the order ticket after the price agreement. and to check off all options I wanted . speed control ,power windows ,premium tires. A/c the works he said still made a good profit on the LTD
Was driving a 1969 Ford high mileage and still accepted a good trade in.

..........They will get you a deal. Yes it low and my even be below invoice. BUT that leaves nothing to the dealer. So what happens the fees got added to the deal. .......
You are not being forthright. Any dealer that hides fees until the last minute is trying to fool the customer, in spite of your rationalization. Pull that stuff with me and I'll walk every time.
