the cost of a .22 isn't too much, and by the time you buy a used barrel then try to buy or fabricate all the other pieces, you're likely to have as much or more in it that one would cost to buy, not to mention the time involved. at that point you are doing it as a labor of love - it's something you enjoy, and not a cost saver.
this sounds like you want to make one to avoid the legal paperwork as much as any other reason. this makes me wonder... if that is the case, is it a smart thing to ask how to build a firearm to avoid the government knowing about it - in a public forum?
