Landpride grapple for SCUT?

Well I looked around my right rear wheel and my BX24 looks as though the 3rd function valve will also connect just as described in the manual. That is a relief. It's never good to try to remember what goes where without a visual inspection. It was in the 20s here in and around Austin TX the last couple of days so I was less than eager to crawl around outside. I think the hydraulic flow is probably BH > 3pt > FL but I don't know how a person would determine that. Maybe it's in the shop manual which I should probably buy. I know I'll have access to the line by the frame member and without getting at it from below. Even with the underbelly protection from Bro-Tec (I think) I managed to take every blade off my HST cooling fan and so my tractor will soon be minus every orange piece and under an engine lift. Lots of fun to replace a $10 part. I plan on installing the 3rd function valve at the same time. Maybe I can get all the parts back together. Looks like I will also need to either buy the longer LP pins or buy the Kubota quick attach. DCinCT if you get a chance could you measure the distance between the C/Ls of the pins on the loader arm and the quick attach. I'm trying to get an idea of how far forward the QA moves the pivot point. I plan on moving a fair number of big rocks and lifting capacity may be an issue.

Will do sometime today. Just looking at it the other day, I was guestimating between 3"-4". I was surprised how heavy the Kubota Quick Attach is. I did order some shims and plan to check my hydraulic pressure with a gauge after the grapple install is complete. May bump it 100 psi to compensate some for the increased weight of the hitch and relocation of the bucket pins further forward.

bandaidmd - I think so. The new joystick handle has two buttons, I assume one for open and one for close. I'm assuming you press either one to turn on pressure in that direction, and press it again to stop pressure. I don't actually see in the manual where operation of the two buttons is described, oddly. Will know for sure when it's operational. On the plus side, since it's a true third function, you can operate the grapple claw while also moving the joystick as normal to achieve simultaneous dual or even triple functions, assuming the BX has enough GPM to make simultaneous operation more than at a snail's pace.
pretty sure those are momentary (spring loaded) buttons so they will only squirt juice while you have them pressed.

OK, spacing pin center to pin center is 3.5" - about what I thought just looking at it. Hope that helps.

You may be right. Guess I'll find out when it's all installed and I can actually push one of those buttons.

By the way, installed the valve today and hooked it into the power beyond circuit. Pic's a bit later today. Called the dealer to see where my missing QC's are and he said their out of stock at LP and LP is waiting on delivery. Frustrating not to be able to play with, er..., use this new grapple. I have piles of branches to clean up.

Yeah this was in my thoughts too when I get the QA. Please document your shim/pressure increase effort here too. I think that is a great idea. Where did you order the shims?

Well, since it was above freezing today (about as good as it gets these days), I decided to attempt the valve installation. It went pretty well on the whole. Maybe three hours of real work involved. Started off by blocking the tractor up as high as I could so I had some room to get under it to remove the skid plate, and also, later to remove the PB pipe and hook up the new hoses. Maybe the hardest part was routing the hose around the valve and down under the tractor. The hoses are relatively stiff (good quality I suppose?) and while they tell you to route both between the valve body and engine side panel, I just couldn't get the valve mount to sit down flat on the deck in order to get the bolt through it. Ended up routing one on each side of the valve mount and also, I reversed the valve mount so it moved the valve body further away from the brake pedal.

As far as which hose goes where, you have to pay close attention to the diagrams in the instructions and rotate them in you head so you get a picture of which hose is which based on how you're actually looking at the tractor. Having said that, let me cut to the chase for you. One of the hoses is longer than the other. The short hose hooks up at the hydraulic block and the long hose hooks up to the PB pipe under the middle of the tractor. One thing to watch is how close the long hose comes to interfering with the cooling fan. It's a tight fit given the hose has a much larger diameter than the pipe you remove. I had to zip tie the hose real tight where it routes past the fan to make sure there was no contact. The hose protectors I put on actually compound things a bit right there, but I got it secured with no interference.

After mounting the valve and making the connections, I tepidly started the tractor up hoping not to hear any unusual hydraulic noises, or see any leaks. Started fine, sounded normal, and the FEL and 3PH moved like normal, so I think I'm good to go. Of course, I won't know for sure until I have the grapple on and actually go to use it.

I also mounted the new joystick handle. It's noticeably larger than the OEM one, so I had to cut about 1.5" off of the joystick rod. I do like to be able to get back on the tractor from the right side now and then, and I can just make it with the new JS. However, after some use, I may cut off another inch or so. I still have to make all the electrical connections and hook it up to the battery. May get to that this weekend. Anyway, hit me with any questions if you're contemplating buying one of these LP SCUT grapples.

Yeah this was in my thoughts too when I get the QA. Please document your shim/pressure increase effort here too. I think that is a great idea. Where did you order the shims?

I order them from Coleman Equipment Coleman Equipment - Case, Kubota, Toro Dingo - Sales, Rental, Parts & Service partially because they had them in stock and their shipping was reasonable. I think Messick's wanted $15-$16 to ship a few washers. I know I could probably get these locally, but I wasn't sure of the diameter and wanted to be sure I got the right ones. The part numbers if you want them are:

31351-37970 .10 mm
31351-37960 .20 mm
31351-37950 .40 mm

I order a few .10 and .20 shims.

By the way, don't know if TBN is slow or maybe it's me, but I tried to open some of my pic's and their opening real slow.

Forgot to mention, if you don't have a gauge, BXpanded sells a complete kit with gauge, shims and instructions, so I'm told. I already had a gauge, so just needed the shims.
