MF 135 In Frame Rebuild Advice

G'Day Guoseph.

I would say there are two issues ,one is a blown cylinder head gasket and the other is worn or broken piston rings and liners.
If you decide to do your own repairs ,the first thing to do is remove the cylinder head ,this will allow you to see both the gasket and the condition of the cylinder liners which will give you a general idea which way to go from there .
I feel that reading your posts you are not very comfortable doing this job and in which case I would suggest you get a mechanic as has been said the three cylinder engine is not that complicated to work on .

The oil pressure gauge , Massey oil pressure gauges are known to fail the small tube inside the gauge fails and as you can see the oil pressure is real good and there may be signs of oil coming from the actual gauge itself! ,seriously ebay for a gauge genuine part or good quality aftermarket will cost 25 dollars and will fit without any hassles, suggest you fit the gauge BEFORE you decide what you are going to do about the engine.
Just another concern, if you as has been suggested use the tractor in this condition and the cylinder head gasket has failed it could cause irreparable damage to the engine block and possibly the cylinder head.
Happy Days .
Hutch.
P.S. Would anyone like to bet on this one !!! Only Joking:thumbsup:

I spent some time today looking at the service manual on your tractor.

The first thing you need to do is find someone that can help you with a compression check.
Hopefully its just one cylinder that has stuck rings and this can be easily solved.
If you find low compression on all the cylinders, you are dealing with a wear issue.

The next thing you need to do after that is put another oil pressure gauge on it and check that pressure.
If its truly pegged out on the new gauge like it is on your current gauge, your check valve in the oil pump has failed.
If thats the case -
You will need to drop the pan to repair this.

Get the compression test first. Oil gauge second.
If you have to pull the pan you can then make the decision as to what to do on pulling the head since you will have the compression numbers.

If you are the slightest bit mechanically inclined you can rebuild this motor.
Plus you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself and you can save yourself a ton of money.

I will help you with anything you need if you decide to do this

Hopefully putting the Archoil AR 2300 and AR9001 after you change oil will help over time if it is a stuck ring(s).

At least you are giving it a chance before you tear into the engine. As stated a compression test would be ideal but are not as simple as with a gas engine. :)

Ha, yeah no kidding. Where is the spark plug hole ;)

I just purchased a Massey 135 diesel this weekend and I have the same problems as you. The tractors leaks a lot of oil out of the breather tube. I have not noticed the dip stick leaking yet but it looks as though there is oil around the dip stick area. The stock oil gauge goes all the way to max when I start the tractor and stays there. Smoke and oil come out of the breather tube. The tractor has sat for most of the last 9 years. I am planning to do an oil change and put some archoil 9100 in to see if it is just a stuck ring. The tractor only has 1760 hours on it so I am hoping I don't need to do a rebuild. I look forward to hearing what you find with your Massy.

Hey I have a mf35 and that smoke out the exhaust is "normal" for mine and yours even starts better than mine in cool/cold weather!!!

I have several drips and leaks, but I do not have the oil blowing out like you do. We did put some rtv sealant on the underside and around the "umbrella" on the dipstick to help keep water out mainly...not sure if it helps keep oil in.

Also, my old oil pressure gauge will max out at startup and after warm will go to just barely registering. I am running rotella 15 w40. I have noticed that my oil level likes to rest right around the min mark, so I don't fill it up to much over that.

I am guessing this archoil 9100 or whatever is kinda like marvel mystery oil or seafoam? Perhaps just go grab a couple jugs of the cheap stuff at walmart and run it a few minutes with the recommended usage of seafoam or marvel or whatever oil in it. Plus, when you drain the "new" or even the "old" oil out, it is just a few bolts to drop the pan and check out the oil pump.

Does it still blow oil out when you remove the fill cap?

Looking forward to an update later in the year as to the results of using the Archoil and agree a parked tractor may take a while to 'wake' back up after 9 years.

Any update? I am looking at a MF 35 with Perkins diesel doing the same thing.
