I have a 5' Kubota Heavy Duty Round Bucket. The inside is not flat where the tooth bar brackets mount. On my first pre-purchase inquiry I asked for some dimensions so I could figure how a tooth bar would mount. They asked for some photos which I sent.

I got this response:

This is a very unusual bucket, it appears to have a thick, welded in cutting edge, with side cutters a regular bolt on tooth bar would not work on a very thick cutting edge, it would be like a bolt on edge, under a welded in edge, and require an extended tooth bar, but you would have to eliminate the side cutters or there would be no way, as all Tooth bars we sell, have a straight edge to the inside of the bucket wall Thanks,

Which says my cutting edge is to thick and the bucket is not flat inside on the bottom. Not sure why an extended tooth is required. My cutting edge is 1/2" thick and is folded up the sides. Here is a picture straight on and the bottom.

Has anyone put a tooth bar on this bucket or know of one that will fit properly. Looking at tooth bar photos it is hard for me to see the problem. I would like to get some dimensioned drawings but I guess they don't give them out to just anybody. If I find one that fits I am assuming that I will have to add a spacer and drill through the side of the cutting edge to mount it. It won't be easy but might be wrong. What would it take to do that ? I also saw a clamp-on tooth bar by toothbar.net but haven't inquired about it. Seems like the bolts would take an awful beating.
Thanks

EDIT: Rather than drill the side of the cutting edge I think I would weld on some extensions to the mounting ears to get back into the bucket more.

If you can get the mounting hole back past the thick cutting edge I don't see any problems. I would just order one that fits on the ID of the bucket (not that little indented area) and see how it lines up. Worst case you'd have to weld on some extensions like you mentioned. I'm not sure why they were so reluctant to sell you one.

I am tempted to do just that but I don't want to end up with $350 or $400 worth of scrap metal. I keep thinking they know a lot more than I do and they see a problem I don't.

Try sending your critical dimensions to Bxexpanded.com They can probably fit you with a Piranha.

I don't see a big problem. If we have a couple of dimensions, we can almost certainly fit it with a Piranha. We offer a version that is designed to accommodate thick edges, etc.
email us at contact@bxpanded.com or give me a call at 704-419-5332

The only measurement that is important is the inside (bucket) dimension on any tooth bar that I have ever had (3). The only minor mounting issue might be that you have to burn the holes if they end up being in the turned up cutting edge. (rather than drilling the bucket side plate). The "teeth" never end up right at the end of the bar and that minor radius should not be a problem. The 2 bolts really do little work, at least in my experience. Most of the time removing the TB requires some determined sledge hammering. You will not regret having a TB! My buddy used to say if your bucket doesn't have teeth, you might as well wear a dress.

Thank you all for the info, photos, and suggestions. I have my tooth bar on order with Everything Attachments. I've been looking at that bucket for 12 years and never realized how uniquely the cutting edge is folded up and welded in. The installation will not be as straight forward as most but it should still be simple.

Gordon,

Glad EA is able to help you out. I have a similar cutting edge on my Kubota bucket and have had no problem with installing and removing my tooth bar. I believe it's a Markham. P2120151.jpgP2120152.jpgP2120153.jpgP2120154.jpg

I put a HD tooth bar on my Kubota. The FEL has a six foot HD round back Kubota bucket(M1811). The bucket looks just like yours. The tooth bar is by Rankin and slipped over the bucket lip with no problem. I want mine to be a more or less permanent installation so I drilled 3/4 inch holes thru the tooth bar and bucket and bolted the sucker right on. I can still remove the tooth bar but it would require unbolting(4).View attachment 360495

Just a follow up. My Tooth Bar arrived. I guess I don't know why there was a question originally, it seems to fit like a glove. The mounting tongues are even long enough that I don't have to burn a hole in the folded up cutting edge. Just have to drill thru the 3/8" side plate.
I am going to wait for a warmer day before I drill any holes though.
Thanks for all the replies.

Looks good, like a tooth bar should!

It will make a big difference in hard clay.

You are really going to like that with your grapple on the bucket.
