Specify the equivalent trucks for the test and the RAM would be right there for payload. Why RAM sent a fully loaded truck that weighs 1100 lbs more than it's nearest competitor is the question. And how exactly do they find 1100 lbs of options to put on the **** thing. Craziness.

What would be equivalent? A loaded-up half-ton Ford or Chevy? Or Titan or Tundra for that matter? Seriously, 490 lbs of payload in a half ton pickup is like **** on a boar!

You load any of the brands up like the RAM in the article and you drive the payload down, unless you buy the Ford with the payload package.

Sure you will drive the payload down, that's a fact of life. But the numbers are not going to be near as low as the Ram.

If RAM supplied the equivalent truck to the two GM's in the test, it would have a 1600 ~ 1700 lb payload. Again, why RAM sends these mall cruisers to these comparison tests is a mystery.

490 lbs! I'm not big in the 'my numbers are bigger than yours, so my truck is better' game, but this is ridiculous. How are you supposed to tow the 8k lbs if you only have room for < 300 lbs of tongue weight after putting yourself and the hitch in your truck? Granted, it's a fully-loaded version, but still!

Somebody already predicted this problem real early in this thread. Oh Yeah, It was me! I took a lot of heat from this too.

Unfortunately the reasons you mention a diesel making sense doesn't apply to the Ram 1500. Payload numbers are poor for this vehicle compared to the competition. Most are rolling off the line around 1000 lbs from what I have seen.

Fuel saving is about the only advantage I see with this offering. Taking advantage of the diesels beautiful torque curve will not be utilized with the low payload capacities.

What does that have to do with the question at hand? The point is, the Ram has less payload than comparable trucks. Period. Load up an F150 or Silverado and see where the payload falls compared to the < 500 for the Ram. In fact, it has less payload that Nissan, Toyota, and Honda mid-sizers in crew cab trim!

What is on the site is often different than what the door sticker will say the finished product is.
