Do I want/need a 72 or 84" box blade?

I'm looking for a 8'6" angled front blade to cover my tracks when plowing snow with 4720. I currently use a 84" front blade that works fine but does not cover my tracks. Does anyone know where I can find one?

I can see that being beneficial for most operators. When I'm cutting next to a building, I cut with the BB as close as I'm comfortable with then switch to sweep cuts with the bucket at a slight angle.



I do the unthinkable (at least to many on here). I cut almost all of my swales with the BB backing up...THE HORROR!!! I also rip them first with the scarifiers and then cut them in 2WD. Even with loaded rears and a 1000+ BB making small cuts at a time, it'll spin before anything breaks. Of course, in rocky ground its a recipe for disaster, so I cut them heading forward.

I don't work next to buildings very often so I prefer the 84" width box blade. I use reverse while grading too in clean ground after loosening it up, seems to work easier with less corrections needed to hold a grade. I don't get in a big hurry though.

It seems like every rural property I work at has a metal shop or barn.

I used to grade quite a bit in reverse in 4wd, until I spun a splined driveline coupler on my front pinion. The soft splines on the $30 coupler removed the hardened splines on the $2000 pinion. Go figure.
