I agree that a quick and dirty solution is the way to go on this. Yours is as good as any. I suspect any one of us would be done by now - one way or another.

I am replacing the sub flooring in a bathroom.The floor joist runs right below, and about an inch out, under a wall.I can't figure out how to get that last couple inches of the old sub floor out, so the new sub floor can lay on top of the joist.Anyone have any clever ideas,or should I suck it up, and sharpen my chisel?

Can you cut the flooring free from the joist with a reciprocating saw with a wrecking blade (metal and wood)? Watch for wires and sparks, but a 6 amp reciprocating saw is a formidable tool for that sort of thing. Once the board or board ends are free of the joist, you can likely bash them out of the cavity with a hammer and pry bar.

There is a attachment for recip saws to make more of a flush cut,it kinda offsets the blade.

you have to be carefull.. I got one and it is easy to break the blade. when i went to get a flush cut ( $$ ).. i opted for them lil multi tools instead.. the oscilating kind.. etc..

I put in a base cabinet back in October up at the orchard a management decision AFTER I had already completely finished the room off. So without wanting to remove the entire length of newly painted and caulked baseboard I had to cut a section loose with a razor knife. PITA! What other options do you have really..so I'm a getting multi too I'm sure I will find plenty of use for it. That toe kick saw is pretty cool too.

I replaced a pair of 18" lower cabinets with a dishwasher and cut down one of the cabinets to finish filling the space.
The oscillating saw worked wonders to give a nice cut.

I have an issue in our newly purchased home where the kitchen sub floor is sagging in 1 spot. Same problem,cutting up next to the wall to either raise or remove the old sub floor or cut and replace. I will be attaching some 2x4 or 2x6 to the existing floor joist to raise the sub floor. I bought this saw at harbor freight, I think it will do the trick. 3-3/8" Blade Toe-Kick Saw

Thank you all for the advice on this.Friday should be demo day.The floor is two layer that I believe is 1/4 ply over 1/2 ply that has swollen to 7/8 total.This was suggested earlier and I believe this is the case.I pushed a hole through the sub floor with my foot to take the measurement.The floor has been replaced before so this maybe easier than I once thought.We shall see.I'm not spending much on this place because it maybe,probably will be,torn down in a few months to a years time.I have already purchased everything to make the repairs.I have a doctor appointment Friday morn,and if he says my back is fine to work,I hope to be done Friday evening.If I can remember to,I'll take a few pics.I get into work and forget to take pics.
