I replaced the disk and pads on the passenger side. The disk actually looked perfect but the pads were in a heck of a state due to rust (jammed in the caliper bracket and the guide clips were broken). Of course the disk was trashed by the time I got it free of the hub. After this experience, my next purchase is the best anti seize compound I can find. Given the discrepancy left to right (left rotor is scored and squeals) it is almost as if the passenger side wear items were replaced at some time in the past and the drivers side was left untouched.

Last time I did that with my Audi, I discovered that all the CV joint boots had been slashed and it cost me all new driveshafts a few weeks later...

I thought I would be upfront with the local tire store and just pay whatever it takes for them to get the 3 remaining wheels freed. Just worried about driving it since I get minimal braking action right now..... If I could bleed the front brakes I am sure I will get it back.

I can't believe deriving it didn't work. Aside from driving in a circle, did you try some evasive maneuvers?

Might be time to cash in on a $29.99 oil change w/tire rotation special??

I had similar problem last weekend. 5 hrs. To get to the front universal joint. Then decided I would go ahead and rotate the tires. The picture says a thousand words.

That was a pic of the rear, but had to do the same on the front. Applied pressure with jack then struck with large hammer. Plus 2 cans of PB Blaster didn't hurt.

I had to use a small bottle jack for leverage. I wedged the jack between the frame and the rim using wood on each end of the jack. I Pumped the jack until it was really snug against the rim. All it took was one whack with a hammer on outside of the rim and it fell off the hub. Thank God I had the little jack and some 2x4 pieces stowed in my pickup toolbox as I was in the middle of nowhere ( bighorn mountains, Wyoming) when I had the flat tire.

I was wondering what kind of puller I could come up with. I think I will try that idea except see if I can use a hydraulic jack... I don't think the wheels on my truck are quite as suitable as yours since the notches in the wheel center are quite small and near the rim diameter. So it might be too springy to work.

I was thinking that the ideal solution would be something you could drive onto that would have 2 sides sloped away at 30 degrees from horizontal. That would put an outward thrust onto both tires at the same time. By driving forward it would apply this load as the tire rotated. No beating on anything to brinell any of the wheel bearings.

I would have used a bottle jack had I planned properly , but they were all in my Barn 12 miles away. If you place the bottle jack with the top against the hub I beleive that would work well. Maybe some kind of block to push against lug nuts.

While the jack was applying pressure, I tried beating the rim on the inside of the rim thinking the same direction of force was needed. This approach didn't work. I crawled out from under the pickup exhausted. I looked at the rim while I was setting there regaining my composure and I thought, opposite force. So, I hit the rim on the opposite side creating inward force of the jack as it was applying outward force. It fell of with one smack of the hammer.

Thanks all, definitely some good suggestions. Looks like permatex makes a copper based anti seize compound.

Thanks for the thread. I learned some things I wish I had known last summer. Same problem out in the country, jacked up, lug nuts loose and didn't have a thing to hammer with. Had I known of the 'loose lug nuts/drive' it probably wouild have saved me a couple hours getting back on the road.
