The parts that are actually of real value - that is: the fundamental underlying principles and ideas - can be addressed just fine under either paradigm.

If so, and I agree totally, then why not be gentlemen and act like one?
I realize you may not be replying to me specifically (sometimes it's hard to tell with the way you write), but I'll reply to you as though you were:

Go read my recent posts (last 24 hours) ... I wouldn't make the claim that they are "gentlemanly" ... but I am trying to avoid the ad hominems, personal attacks, and unnecessary, overblown inflammatory rhetoric.

People who seem to enjoy the insulting more than the discussion, because they usually don't answer the question, they just belittle the prior poster.
Part of the key to defusing it and cleaning it up might be to focus on what is said in the post ... and not who it was that wrote it.

Try it - just ignore who the poster is and focus on the post and the issues it deals with instead.

Another thing: When replying to someone - particularly if it is something that is contentious and there is a difference in views - try to avoid using the word "you" ... which really personalizes things.

Disagreements on an issue can become ugly and escalate when it becomes personal.

The site belongs to the owners, if they decide to drop FP, so what? We all lived our lives before Friendly Politics and before TBN. It appears to me everything has been said, rehashed, said again, anyway.

Most of us don't want FP to be a moshpit. About six of you do. Therein lies the problem.
The insults and the ad hominem attacks have to be reduced to a much lower level; unrealistic to think they will disappear.

Sometimes I don't want to open the FP threads when they pop up saying something is new. It really has been like going into an unfriendly place.
And that sure wasn't the sign on the door. I'm admittedly more thin skinned than some of you and maybe I should just stay out of FP.

+1 to this sentiment Daugen. Hyper-criticism to the point of ad hominem is the problem. Those that think of themselves on the tolerant side, are exactly not. Oftentimes, they think that they cleverly disguise their methods of attack (in latin or not so common wording) so that someone with a lesser understanding of the english language won't quite understand or realize the belittlement.

Yes, some provacative thoughts and excerpts that do get one to thinking do often come up. And to that I'll hoist a frosty beverage. It's just that the attacking style of discourse, and the velocity of exponential decline of said discourse that turns me off. I've decided I don't have the time for it.

Thanks Muhammed for your concerns. It wouldn't bother me if you dropped FP, but I do like reading it when it stays civil.

It only works if you accept the redefinition of the word "vicious" into a particular, specific paradigm ... where saying some words (albeit harsh) to someone is somehow as bad, or functionally worse, than advocating the things I remarked on earlier ... which you yourself remarked on ... ;)

You know: There's "vicious" ... and then there's V-I-C-I-O-U-S ...

vi·cious
ˈviSHəs/Submit
adjective
1.
deliberately cruel or violent.
"a vicious assault"
synonyms: brutal, ferocious, savage, violent, dangerous, ruthless, remorseless, merciless, heartless, callous, cruel, harsh, cold-blooded, inhuman, fierce, barbarous, barbaric, brutish, bloodthirsty, fiendish, sadistic, monstrous, murderous, homicidal;

I'd say all but the last 2 in that list fit.

I find it funny that the number 1 person ignored in FP (not Kyle) is lecturing the rest of us on how to behave.

What a joke.

It is quite ironic isn't it? And he is the first and as far as I know the only one to be reinstated after the "purge" of a couple of days ago.
