Could you restrict your animosity to the Friendly Politics forum? Most of us are here to help, learn, or simply have a good time. Posts like this are really becoming a drag...

Why should rswyan not question certain assertions made about forum courtesies in a thread labeled " Forum Courtesy"?

My point is... Keep the confrontation in the Friendly Politics forum, where it is private and you know what you are getting into, well, sort of. When it bleeds into the public forums, our kids, young adults, and well, anyone not interested in the bickering, are affected.

I've received a lot of good advice and it's very much appreciated.

Through this forum I have also spent quite a bit of money and it has been well spent.

It's a great resource with lots of members willing to help.

Hope to be here for another 10 years!

Come on over to Pirate 4X4 where conversations like this only receive hate and appropriate ridicule. This is the internet where everyone has a license to publish. The flip side of that is that they don't have to publish what you like. Public humiliation by the forum regulars tends to shut down the sort of behavior your upset with. In general this forum is pretty good and tolerant of even ignorant flubs like me.

Ahhh, I see. The first poster gets a pass while anyone responding to it is automatically at fault cause that's "confrontational". Got it.

Yea that.

It's not like a thread about spark plugs is getting polluted with acerbic tripe, this is a thread all about perceived rudeness and a newby on newby pissing match.

I don't want to turn this into an argument... Just saying that common courtesy and decency isn't too much to ask. As far as the internet being a license to publish, maybe. Your kids read this, then the next time they start arguing and bickering, what do you tell them? Oh, it's ok on the internet, but not in real life. A little respect goes a long way. I have learned that while I don't always agree with other's opinions, I should at least respect their right to have them. I actually think I should have pm'd RSWYAN, rather than call him out in public. To his credit, he didn't lash out in public. All I'm really saying, respect others and disagree respectfully. If you don't agree with me, cool... Just do so with respect, and I'll certainly respect you.

Not what I meant. Not what I said. If you want an argument, you won't get it from me. If most of you believe that the anonymity of the internet is a license to be disrespectful, I suppose that is your right. Heck, I know in the past, I've crossed the line. The thing is... I'm not particularly proud of that fact. Mace, I've read a lot of your posts, and frankly, they have mostly brought smiles to my face. I don't agree with you on all levels, but respect your opinions. But when we disagree, I hope it will be civil, is all.

Presuming this is a vote... I agree... it should be civil. There's no reason it shouldn't be.

Civil discourse is the element that separates us from the apes. However, this is the big boy internet and if you decide that you can't tolerate the responses and "civility" of this forum I have only one comment: How can we miss you if you wont leave?

I can't argue with that. :D

I'm not dogpiling here Sam. Just an observation. I think you should have typed the opening post in this thread, read thru it a couple times, then deleted it and moved on. I've lost track of the number of times I've done that. Tends to minimize the confrontations and hurt feelings. ...

I delete 4 or so of five posts composed, usually to not sound like a know-it-all restating what's already been said, but also when I realize someone has a bug under their saddle and sarcasm isn't a productive counter to someone's righteous indignation when I'm being misunderstood.

... When I post what I think is valuable information or answers to a problem/question I expect nothing in return. Minimizes the anxiety. Might give someone assistance that never responds, if so, that's great, if not, that's great too.

Another thing that really turns me off is when someone says "I'm out" or "I'm leaving" or "Over and out" or whatever. If a poster is done, just be done. No one needs the drama of threatening to leave. Just loses credibility for that poster.

I value every member on TBN. But I fully understand that if I vanished from this site today, I would rarely be spoken of or missed and after 6 months few would remember my name.

This ^^ echoes my thoughts.

There are far too many good folks around here for anyone to be run off by a few of us old cranks. Manners come and go with our moods, and we take our hits as often from those who misunderstand us as those who disagree. Not everyone's sense of humor is in top gear all the time, and thick skin is an asset anywhere on the web, period. How fast one can get over or forgive something is power in a place like this.

btw, my typical forum gripe is that titles like "Hey, look at this .." or "I thought I'd never see one of these" won't help anyone see an aardvark wearing a tutu by searching titles.

Anyway, I hope 'masseyman' (I'm dyslexic ) hasn't left us for good.

Just an observation.

When I read the common section in a news paper article ( on the internet) you can see all the hatred, racism, Furness etc.
But if it is a Facebook linked article, posters are so much more respectful.
Conclusion the use of screen name opposed to something that can actually be traced back to the actual poster identity can make a world of difference. Some people just like to hide behind screen names and spew garbage.

Heheheheheheh..... The faint at heart should avoid speaking out on Pirate. Many members here would not do well there. :)
