How long is the power cord on the PA300 and is it true that I need to supply the plug? If the power cord is not as long as I want it to be would it be easy to wire in a longer power cord or should I use an extension cord?

No it does not come with a plug. Keep in mind this is a dual phase unit, meaning it can work on single phase 240V or 3 phase 240V. 3 phase requires an extra wire which is not used on single phase. The manual shows how to wire properly though. This is standard for units that operate on 1 and 3 phase not to have a plug. Almost all our other units come with a plug except the cheapest mosfet units which I do not promote and any unit capable of 1 and 3 phase.

The wire is about 8-9 ft. If you use an extension cord, make sure it is heavy enough and is at least 8 ga if it runs very far.

USPS or Fedex , I think UPS drops stuff off at the post office, then the USPS person delivers it. Fedex has Saturday home delivery.

HA!!!!! I got the Amazon shipping notification also. The price was also confirmed.

Mine comes tomorrow (Tuesday, 5/6/14)!! But it was shipped from Stockton, CA, which is about 80 miles away from my place.

I'll post photos of what you can expect if there is any interest.

Deleted.

Double post and I only hit "post reply" once. Strange.

Guys, also be sure to leave a "real" review on Amazon...honest opinions only please. We don't pay for professionals to post review after review so, we need what we get. Might not want to make other people mad though and tell them how cheap you got it. I noticed that unit compared to some of the others is kind of short on reviews. Might help another person make up their mind one way or the other about it. Appreciate it in advance.

I could have pulled the trigger at the incredibly low price but I have to say, I am glad it has been corrected or would have been agonizing the whole time. Good for you all that got an incredible deal and I hope it wasn't a hardship on the manufacturer or the reseller. That said, thank you Mark for your honest and prompt reporting. As much as this was the ticket to get a great welder, and I love tools more than I can justify... okay... yes I am kicking myself... that was a helluva deal!

I have to ask one thing.. How many hobbies that will never make ROI (return on investment) is appropriate vs. balancing buying a nice dust collector for your better half? Personally (selfishly) I say a welder that barely gets used is better than a piece of a pretty pretty that sits lonely in the house. But... I'm a guy.

I use the same logic when I buy tools. Our rule is that my wife gets to spend the same amount on purses and shoes that I spend on equipment. At least my hobbies could potentially create a ROI if the US economy collapses.

dragoneggs,

Nice thoughtful post, as usual.
It seems so many of my buys are spur of the moment items I suddenly "need". But it's just that way with fun tools and machinery. I just happen to be in the middle of a large welding project and am really tired of struggling with limited skills and 30 year old welders that don't help me compensate. Just happened onto Mark's post three hours after it appeared and was in the mood for a new toy, er, I mean, tool (last week it was another gun). The moral issues tinged the process a bit for me too, but Amazon is big and there might be some marketing strategy involved that I don't know about. Either way, it now turns out that the price was there for a number of weeks before we all heard about it. It is interesting to see how we all responded to the situation with different views and different timing. It gave Mark a lot of good exposure too.
Next, the reviews on the welders will begin to show up.

Are you talking about welders or Amazon ;)

Mine's left Harrisburg :)

If your wife is buying stuff to make her more attractive her hobby could maximize her ROI if YOU collapse. :)

If you've been "struggling" with 30 yr old welders you've probably surveyed the available options and knew this was a great buy.

Last February when I left Mississippi I had decided to buy a non-HF welder and had just about settled on an Everlast 140, but wanted a 200 and needed the price around $250. Almost bought a couple of times. Then I get back down here and serendipitously a machine that far exceeds my needs fits my budget.

Sort of like when I found my 50HP Kubota for $11.5K when my main parameters were at least 40HP and no more than $15K, lot's of research had shown that this was a rare deal.

Thus it wasn't really a "spur of the moment", I suspect if you suddenly bought a new purse for yourself that would be "spur of the moment" :) Buying this welder was merely waiting for the correct alignment of the stars.

Let the reviews begin!!

Lot's of pictures please :)
