Ok, rifle target version 2 has a little plastic tab that allows the paddle to spin, but then slows it and stops it in the right place. Kind of like how a hockey card in your bike spokes (for that awesome engine sound when you were a kid) would be placed. :)

You could bolt on a flap of car tire.

Sure, or maybe just a thick cabletie around the bolt with the end sticking out in front of the paddle, then snip off the excess. Really easy to do and also easy to replace if it wears out. Shouldn't be too hard to field test a couple of options. :)

Not sure how much effort you want to put into fabricating these, but I was just thinking about the effect of bullet strikes over time beating the crap out of them and how it would be nice to be able to replace the paddles without having to muck around with the whole thing. If you welded some angle to the mounting pipe, you could make tabs that hold the paddles and then you could easily replace the paddles as they are damaged by bullet strikes.

They won't, they will spin and stop at random places with random colors showing, but what difference would that make? You would still be able to see the change of colors and the motion..

If it stops in the wrong place, you could send a ricochet up into the sky. Could hurt someone.

Hard targets should be angled slightly tword the shooter to be sure to deflect bullets and bullet fragments down.

This is a good point. Perhaps with the example I was showing, you might want to shoot at the paddle on the bottom instead of the paddle on the top. The result would still be the same spinning of the target, and the motion of the target plus the paddle sticking out of the front above it would help to deflect bullets downward and stop fragments from ricocheting upward.

I would prefer shooting at the face of each paddle, avoiding weird angles.

Go back and look at the target under the plate rack in post #68, that is the fix. You are right about not wanting to hit a plate rocked back 45 degrees or so, might as well be shooting in the air at that point.

I apologize for not reading all the post and if this has been suggested. I use balloons. Blow up a big one or a small one if you are good. You can see if they pop or not.

I'm building my prototype which is a light system. I will epoxy a shock sensor to the back of the plate. A hit will cause 2 LED light strips to flash left than right for 10 seconds. All electronics including the battery will be in a water proof case. Total coat is going to be roughly $30. Will post pics once done.
