$89,000 for a new diesel pickup, how is it going to pay for it's self ?

I like to buy new and drive it into the ground. I skimp on the features. My current truck is a silverado 2500HD work truck that I bought in 2003 for $24000, listed $29995. Last time it went into the shop I checked out the same vehicle new. It was listing for $34000. I have 124000 miles on mine. It is cheaper to just fix it than buy another. That is the only way I see a way to make up for the price.
It isn't just trucks, cars have jumped in price too.

The quote for the truck I'm looking at is $101,000 out the door. With 7 year financing even at 4.99% it's close to my mortgage payment. With what I'm using it for it makes more sense to me than putting money into my F450 or buying another F450 that I'll use up in a few years. Towing 17,000 lbs day in and day out over 30,000 miles a year takes it toll on a light duty truck.

So, if you really need a 1 ton, it's only about 10% more than this Dmax to get into a medium duty.

If you are hauling heavy, I'd say that's a no brainer (pun half-intended Brian ;) ).

Just seen a new 2015 crew cab SLT Duramax 4x4 on the lot for $77,000 plus sales tax.
What does a person do with a truck like that to make it pay it's way?
I bet your insurance rate would not be cheap either.

They don't pay for themselves. I hauled RV trailers from the factories to all over Canada with diesel pickups. And was brokered out to one of the highest paying logistics outfits and it wouldn't pay those off.
I can't understand how everyone is buying them for grocery getters? They're getting ridiculous with the prices.....especially when you look and see they are making them cheaper in Mexico and putting no-name brand tires like Nexan's on Ram's for example.

Your're better off to buy a Hino/Freightliner M2/Terrastar and enjoy the increase in reliability and lower shop rates and cheaper parts at the big truck dealers. Sure they burn a bit more fuel, but it evens out once you factor in repair and maintenance.

Or buy a used pickup and let some other poor sucker take the hit.

I looked at Hinos, the biggest problems I had were that the salesman had the attitude that he didn't need to sell it to me, I should just buy it, and there's not a whole lot of options or creature comforts. I looked at Freightliner too. Their sales guy had no idea what I was looking for. Both International dealers I've talked to have gone out of their way to accommodate me. That's why I'm buying a Durastar.

As far as mileage, I don't expect to take much of a hit.

Did I miss something in the translation from an $89k pickup in the title to the $77k you list here? :confused3:
