I ended up with the BXpanded thumb mostly due to cost. The Kubota thumb was quoted a bit higher and I liked the reviews of the BXpanded thumb enough to think it will be heavy duty enough for my intended work. I also like to support these guys who build additional parts for our tractors that Kubota won't make for whatever reason (profitability, liability, any other "ility"). Like pallet forks, for example. I won't need them very often or to lift the most weight, but I can imagine them being handy occasionally. So why spend close to $1000 on a set when BXpanded makes them for $300/pair. I like the versatility of the BXpanded stuff in that it all attaches and comes off very easy and I don't have to take the bucket off. Plus, I save a bunch of money which will let me get a couple more attachments which may not be optimal, but will let me do things with the tractor I couldn't otherwise at a fraction of the price. I guess a lot of it is subjective, just my 2 cents.

I also bought a log splitter from Tractor Supply Co. this past week. It's a 3PH one that runs off the tractor's hydraulics. I just got it working over the weekend. Not the fastest thing due to the BX's low GPM pump rate, but it took a few oak samples I had laying around without even thinking about it. I paid $750 for the splitter and added the hydraulic hoses, couplers, etc. for another $60-80 I believe. Now I have a splitter for under $1000 and all running off the same engine and hydraulics I already have.

For stump work you can't beat a ripper tooth... A ripper tooth concentrates all your backhoe's curling power onto a sharpened edge rather than using your bucket. Makes short work of those nasty roots. Bro-Tek out of Canada sells a nice one. I will be buying one soon as I have to do some conduit trenching. BroTek also sells a trenching attachment that fits over the ripper tooth. Not sure if any other companies manufacture a ripper tooth for the BX...?

I've got that specific setup and would recommend it. It's a niece and relatively inexpensive piece of equipment. I sold my BX25 and have to adapt the Bro-Tek ripper to my B3300. Didn't want to part with it!!

Just got the ripper tooth from
Bro-Tek myself. Will very much look forward to trying it out, perhaps this weekend. It is a very seriously heavy duty piece of equipment.

Have you bought a log splitter yet? I'd recommend getting a stand alone unit. I also wanted to just use my BX but when I priced it out I thought a 3 point log splitter was over priced. Also the BX had plenty of power to split it will be slow. A log splitter with a engine will have two speeds so the ram will move fast and when it hits the log slow down and the split.

Nice looking BX, thanks for the pics!

I did get the splitter already. I paid around $850 all told for a 3PH splitter. As you mentioned, it's not the fastest, but I think it will be fine for my needs. It's got a 4" cylinder on it so it should have plenty of power even with the hydraulics of the BX. I really didn't want another engine/pump to worry about. I've helped friends before with dedicated splitters and they are fast and nice, but I needed to save money this time. I may upgrade someday, but we'll see how this one does for a bit. thanks for all the advice.

Hi macguy, Can I ask you which dealer you worked with? I'm in So. NH as well and shopping for the BX25. Had one dealer quote me
just about straight list price. Trying to save every penny for "options". I really like the BXpanded thumb. Thanks!

I bought mine from Chappel Tractor in Milford, NH. I should point out again that I paid the cash price (which is lower to begin with), plus Kubota was giving an extra $500 off BX25D models through the end of June for a total of $1000 off. Who knows, that might have gone up now. I think they did that to try to move their BX25D inventory as they now have the BX25D-1. They gave me the option to get the new one, but with no substantial changes to speak of I took the D to save the money.

Also, the grapple I bought had $500 off through Kubota (they had a deal that you could get $500 off by picking up 1 attachment if buying a BX25D). So I believe this is how it all worked out:

BX25D w/3PH kit & 12" BH bucket: $17,500
LandPride Grapple: $1350
Kubota QuickAttach: $150

Those prices include all labor/parts, etc. I paid $19K even. They took a personal check upon delivery which took a little over a week. I'm sure there was room to save a tiny bit more, but I felt like I got a good deal in the end and am happy with what I got. I have about 20 hrs. on it now and love it!

I got somewhere around 10% off at MB Tractor in Plaistow when I bought mine in the fall of 2012. Don't know if that helps you or not.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the info. It was Chappel that gave me the almost list price and I haven't talked to MB Tractor yet.
